Maybe it was an oversight or even a temporary lapse in judgment that landed Mr. Panday in the penitentiary. Having once ascended the commanding heights of power, some may even argue that it was a feeling of invulnerability and the dizzying effects of power that intoxicated Mr. Panday, resulting in a lapse in judgment. Whatever the reason, the crux of the matter is that Mr. Panday is a citizen of T&T and is not above the law. Consequently, if he perpetrated the crime he must do the time. This does not detract from Mr. Pandays’ tremendous contributions as a Trade Union leader and his reputation as a political pit bull. That is already enshrined in the annals of West Indian political history and will forever be attributed to him. However, to give Mr. Panday a pass because of past performance, age or status is to make a joke of justice and set a negative precedence for a nation that is in the thaws of escalating crime and unprecedented violence. This most recent development, is yet another chapter in the saga of Basdeo Panday.

The recent triple conviction and maximum jail sentence of former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday for “failing to disclose a London bank account to the Integrity Commission” has not only caused a mighty dark cloud to descend across the horizon of TnT politics but has also spoken revealing volumes as to the real nature of ministerial performance on both sides of the political spectrum.

Although a somber day for some, others celebrated when Basdeo Panday, the former Prime Minister, and Opposition leader of Trinidad and Tobago was found guilty yesterday on all three counts of failing to declare a London Bank account to the Integrity Commission for the years 1997, 1998 and 1999, which was a violation of Section 27 (1) (b) of the Integrity in Public Life Act of 1987.

Buggered until dead, the body of little Sean Luke was found in a canefield near his home at Orange Valley, Couva, yesterday.
The six-year-old, a United States citizen, would have felt no fear, smiling and laughing with the predator until he was stripped of his clothing and killed in a most agonising way.
Pathologist Dr Eastlyn Mc Donald Burris found during a preliminary examination yesterday that the killer inserted a sugarcane stalk into the boy’s rectum, and pushed it until it reached the child’s throat.
His intestines were ruptured and other organs damaged.
He died from internal bleeding.
