Kalifa remains at home *LINK*

Monday 27th September 2004

YET another school week has begun, but Kalifa Logan, the displaced Rastafarian girl who was rejected from St Charles’ High School and then in a twist of events accepted once again into the school, is still at home. Lynette Marshall, Kalifa’s mother, said that Kalifa will not be attending St Charles’ High School. Marshall added that after her child was discriminated against, and after being rejected, Kalifa is now “scared of the nun (Sister Noel).” She said that people were not listening to her child’s plea, saying that Kalifa is tired and “stressed out” over the entire situation. Marshall said that throughout the entire ordeal Kalifa’s father, Reynold Logan, had taken a back seat. However, he now feels that it is “too much” and it is now time for him to “come out in the open.”

Reynold Logan had made a conscious decision to maintain a silent role in the matter but Marshall said that “people feel like she (Kalifa) has no father,” and the time had come for him to come to the forefront. When Newsday spoke to Marshall yesterday, she said her husband was going to make some “serious movements.” As to what these movements may be, she could not say as the family was still discussing the matter. When questioned as to whether the family would begin legal action today, Marshall said that she has now left that aspect of the situation to the legal team that is representing Kalifa in the matter. Marshall also said that the entire situation has been stressful, as she has Kalifa, along with her other children to take care of, and it has taken a toll on the family.
