Remember the FIRST Sept 11th

lettersTHE EDITOR: September 11 marks a profoundly tragic event in world history. On this fateful day and in the coming years, thousands of lives were lost or permanently destroyed. So many people were disappeared, to date unaccounted for. The events of that day so many years ago continue to affect the lives of countless people and societies to this very day.

Now I am referring to the removal of a democratically elected government in Chile in a very bloody coup that was financed and supported by the United States in 1973. If the only September 11 you were thinking about was the no less horrific event in New York in 2001, you’re probably only been fed news, history and their analyses from only one perspective.

Now that’s bad enough if one is an ordinary person like myself. But far too many products of our university, some of whom are radio talk show hosts and newspaper columnists, possess the same mindset. You would think that they’d know better; that they would publicly note the parallels and connect the dots from certain historic events to the upheavals we see now. You would have hoped that they at least could remember that this is a country with a very long history of being fed propaganda – first to aid king and country in expanding the Empire, then to support Washington during the Cold War to….well…expand its empire. As such, we should be extremely critical in our examinations of the narratives we are told to accept, particularly now as yet again we learn of “existential” threats from elements that were products and once allies of the same people who now churn out those narratives.

On dates like September 11 let us mourn the senseless loss of lives and condemn those who kill using their version of god or ideology as a cover. But Republic Day is approaching and not a lot of people fully understand what that means. Let us put a stop to others using us as “useful fools,” to borrow a Russian term, to further interests that are not necessarily our interests.

  1. An event is only significant to Americans and the American media if it directly affects the USA and American lives. The Obama drone program is killing and has killed thousands of innocent persons described as collateral damage in many parts of Asia and the Middle East in its quest to target Islamic terrorists. No mention is made in the American media.
The excessive negative preoccupation with Blacks who comprise approx. 15 to 18 % of the American population is also indicative of the bigotry and paranoia in that country.
But worst of all, America is on the verge of possibly electing Donald Trump as their PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER IN CHIEF in a country where Americans are killing other Americans daily and where they are stressing out about and demonizing Muslim and Hispanic immigrants.
The irony in all of this is the presence of an American ambassador in T&T lecturing the country on morality and crime, and interfering in the internal politics of T&T.

The audacity of this guy Tman, pretending to care about Black Suffering Americans in far off distant lands, yet don’t give a rats behind ,about fellow citizens, who so happened to be Africans living in La Trinity?
Maybe he does not fully understand the role of an Ambassador, or is merely attempting ,to win back the King Trollogian award ,from that simi literate comedian ,called Mamboo, hmmmm?

Least you forgot , the Ambassador is a Lavantille born Trinidad ,& Tobago National, who just happened to have excelled in America.
What exactly do you expect an Ambassador representing the world’s sole remaining Superpower to do , when it comes to crimes, economics , and other matters that affects National Self interest?
Your point- as probably implied -might be valid , in that he most likely has cross National interest /biases, but who can really tell?
Is he any different to your glorified Literature Nobelist ,Sir Vida Niapaul , who likewise lectured to mot only the Caribbean, but ancestral India , ethnic religious rival Pakistan , and his forgotten home country T&T?
He has as much right to lecture , like you and I , but last I checked ,he was ready to up the ante and speak directly to the youths.
Whether they’ll listen , is another story.
Give it a rest , this Ambassador , like his lame duck President , will hold office for maybe another 4 months, as your much anticipated El President Trump, or worst yet, Queen Hillary , can take over.
Then you’ll get the White , sophisticated , more palatable Ambassador ,you wish. Until then , put pressure on your leaders- in and out of power- to develop a more coherent Foreign policy.
Who is going to start measures to diversity our stagnant economy? In de interim TMan , your PM in waiting , is getting her soiled petit coat in a twist, over potential spying Police., Y Por Que?
