Sowing the seeds of war

Raffique ShahIt would seem preposterous if any nation that is involved in US President Donald Trump’s fantasy warfare (in which the carnage is impossibly real) were to pronounce victory.

Or even more absurd would be claims of having devastated and dismantled what was left of the camp that Palestinians were forced to call home, because the rubble left behind by Israel’s constant bombardment of Gaza cannot be called anything but camps in the Bedouin tradition. Still, since Trump appeared to be enjoying the puerile digital war, one cannot dismiss his sharing of digital targets for practice on live ranges with equally live targets.

What gets my goat is when these politicians from almost primitive cultures join the idiot and sing songs of praise and thanks. Many of the thousands of those who fell dead on the dusty desert roads were babes in arms to mothers who did not meet the nutritional standards to bring their children up with the necessary vitamins and minerals and starter foods that the rest of the world enjoys.

It is reprehensible in the extreme for prime ministers, presidents and generals from these powerfully-armed nations that fully support the USA to proceed to pummel their victims mercilessly, in some cases long after the village has been wiped out.

Poor little Hind trapped in a vehicle with six dead relatives, making her final phone call hoping for a relative’s comfort, but getting more lead sprayed on her and her rescuers. That is the nature of the dishonest, “dutty” beasts we are dealing with.

And, to think, there are foolish people living among us, some holding high offices, who support this type of war crime; it is nothing more or less than that. Perhaps when the world’s watchdogs grow a pair we may see some of these very same people tried for the atrocities they have committed and they have wholeheartedly supported.

I had planned that today I would deal with a less grievous topic but with all the death surrounding us, it is difficult to turn a blind eye to the suffering or indeed the full-scale murders that these mis-leaders are engaged in. Locally we had a young father and his infant son slain like dogs or cats on a busy roadway, but they claim the state of emergency (SoE) is working.

Worse, all these mongrels can utter is that they had the support of nations that mattered. No word about their failed SoE which has been in place to deal with the intensity of the crime situation. But since Eid, they have all been dressing in their finest silks and parading about the place. Easter weekend is upon us; I wonder which of the mis-leaders will dress as the Easter Bunny since their clothing finery seems bottomless.

When I listen to these politicians, I realise they are misinformed and clueless about the world’s history, and to our detriment, they are dunce when it comes to the world’s history on oil and gas, and the fluctuations of prices during times of war and the economic hardships that can follow.

Besides the practical backlash that goes along with war—especially in this case in which our neighbour next door, Venezuela, has been treated like a rag doll by the US—there will follow, as sure as day follows night, a period when some new Venezuelan leader inspires his people to stand up against the US and countries like Trinidad and Tobago that are lap-dogs to Washington.

Do they really believe that the shame Venezuela has been subjected to, which was exacerbated when the US “stole” the people’s oil and their network of industry-related installations, will simply be forgotten?

If it takes a hundred years, there will come a Simon Bolivar or a Hugo Chavez or a Fidel Castro who will lead his people in as brutal a war as the world has ever seen…in whose front yard? It is alarming that our Prime Minister and her front-ranked ministers do not see this danger they are saddling future generations with.

I suppose they will all be dead and gone; hell, they may not even make a second term, so to them, that is not their business. But our grandchildren and their lineage will be victims of wars where they know nothing about how they were started.

This is a frightening prospect, but it’s also a very realistic one and our PM walked into it with her eyes wide open. I never mentioned this prospect in such detail before because I thought that the new Government would at least have some common sense to know how to play politics with the might of the Americas. Countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil…need I go on?

To think I will not be there comes across like treason. In any case, I won’t want to ever be part of war with my Latin neighbours. Let the descendants of those who created this asinine situation deal with it.
