Another Central toddler murdered

Three-year-old Roshni RamdialPolice were on a manhunt in Central Trinidad last night, after another toddler was murdered.

Three-year-old Roshni Ramdial, was pronounced dead on arrival at Chaguanas Health Centre. The child was beaten.

Roshni’s death followed the deaths of several other children who were attacked and killed during the past few months.

It was only last Wednesday, in Mayaro, that nine-month-old Rakeem Ricardo Clarke was clobbered to death with a dabla—thick wooden paddle used to flip roti.

A man and a woman were, up to late yesterday, assisting police in that investigation, pending an autopsy today.

In the latest killing, relatives said the child’s mother Rukmin Ramdial, 38, a domestic worker, returned home from work around 7 pm on Friday, and found her daughter dead.

Ramdial, according to police, lived with her daughter and a companion on Ashraff Road in Charlieville. She had been in a relationship for seven months.

Police said they were looking for a 33-year-old suspect who they believed could assist them in their inquiries.

  1. Why are these stupid, irresponsible women allowing perfect strangers to take care of their children. I am sick and tired of it! These women deserve to be locked up, tortured etc. as much as the men. The government needs to step in and provide a safe haven for these children. If you do not want the kids give them up to child welfare services people..don’t use them as your own personal punching bags!

  2. I can relate to Sethi’s response. But I will elaborate it. I am sick of it too. These women NEED a man so bad when half of the time these bastards make no difference to their lives, but maybe its the “sweetness” the man is giving them that is top priority, and I am sorry but do not expect me to mince my bloody words. I am pretty certain that they too subject themselves to some level of abuse. But they will turn around and place their child in the care of this individual DISREGARDING the repercussion risk. They need the man so badly even if it means subjecting their childs/children lives to abuse or something deadly.
There are many single mothers out there who are striving and getting by without the stranger-in-the-house-risk-factor.Some of these women place high value on their kids, enough not to allow a man no matter how “sweet” and “nice” and a “good person” to come into their home and live with their children. Dotish women like this one whose child was senselessly murdered, needs to take pattern and place the kids FIRST and Above such elements at all times.Saying this may be all in vain I know, but citizens(the caring ones) need to pay attention to a helpless child living in an abusive environment. The signs are there…we have to RECOGNIZE them and act accordingly. Think about it…when a child is being abused by the people he or she is suppose to trust, this child is hoping and wishing for help and relief from this torture and agony. If we, as observing citizens recognize this is the situation with someone in our own neighborhood, we need to set aside our doubts and put this child’s life first. Do not turn a blind eye…help save a child’s life.

  3. it is really sad to see the nations future to be brutally murdured by persons they are familiar with. how can these persons live with themselves knowing that they are responsible for the death of a child, a child who has not even had an opportunity to live, to venture the world, who did nothing wrong and doesn’t even understand the rights from the wrongs, the goods from the bads…

  4. This is nothing new , especially in our country. The amount of children that died at the hands of some jilted father/ lover is astronomical (and can rival our kidnapping victims figures) that either attempted to commit suicide or pretend so to do , taking the children with him in the process while apologist relatives and bias media and psyco gurus defend such callous actions to the hilt. In like manner when a defenseless mom is forced to use every trick in the book to collect child support and a insensitive law enforcement and legal official turns a blind eye – thus placing the life / health and well being of her siblings at risk . This is just as bad . We need to see outrage not on selective matters because the surname of the victim appear to swing one way or the other. “He that has eyes to see , let him speak.” That’s my quote. Perhaps it’s incorrect- yes?

  5. i am doing my internal assessment for communications studies on abused children in trinidad for 2009. in doing this i have studied many of children cases who did not even make out alive. i just want to share my views to many who view this site. i just cant see Trinidad and Tobago improving on any thing in the future. and i am not going to sit down and wait any government or anyone else to take a step in fighting for the survival and nuturing of children. little chilsren may cry out but yet noone tries to hear what they are saying. i may be young in my age but when i get older i would not like to hear any of my children raped and murdered. it would be more tragic to know that i had ignore his or her cries. give the children a home that they can feel loved and lend them your ear. my heart goes out to the family of roshni ramdial and all the toddler’s that have been tragically and horribly murdered in the past years

  6. Hello Hema!

Can you please send me your email address please…I need to talk to you about your studies….very important.

  7. hey am doing child sexual abuse for my internal assessment 2009 also..i feel reall hurt to see that innocent children have to go tru this…imagine their families..wow

  8. You see, Crime in Trinidad has become the Norm. No one ever sees, hears or knows anything about nothing. This stand gives criminals free range to do as they please and the government is all talk and no walk. I am sick to my stomach everytime I see a child die regardless of the circumstances. Everyone it seems turn to the police for help and by all accounts it appears that the police is the biggest part of the problem.

The citizens need to start being more vigilant and demanding. They need to pull out their cameras, cancorders, cellphone cameras and start collecting information and passing it on to the media….this is the only way to force some accountabiility on the government’s part.
