TSTT Offers Lower Internet Rates with Higher Speeds

ComputersOn the heels of Flow cable announcing increased internet speeds for lower rates we have TSTT launching Blinkbroadband (www.blinkbroadband.tt).

Currently, TSTT’s residential Dial-Up Unlimited package is $345.00 TT and the DSL 256k package is $460.00 TT, but with TSTT’s Blinkbroadband the residential rates are:

Speed / Cost in TT dollars

256k —— $79.00
512k ——- $149.00
1MB ——- $229.00
2MB ——- $349.00
Up to 10MB —— $699.00

Before you think this is such a great deal, in Denver people pay around $37.00 US for 7MB.

I also doubt TSTT’s customer service would improve any time soon.

TSTT NEWS RELEASE
October 1, 2007:

TSTT setting a new benchmark for broadband access

Trinidad – On October 1st, TSTT entered the final phase of its multi-million dollar broadband infrastructure upgrade that will see the company ramp up its customer broadband capacity to over 100,000 ports within a 4-month period. The project will ultimately deliver broadband access speeds of up to 10Mbps and reach every Exchange in Trinidad and Tobago. Trevor Deane TSTT’s Executive Vice President Broadband Services says that with the upgrade, TSTT will be able to extend the distance limitations that were a feature of its current High-Speed Internet offering. “We have invested in ‘future proof’ technologies that are versatile enough to support current and emerging technologies. Modernising our infrastructure and completing our Metro Ethernet fibre distribution network will mean the sky is the limit for business and residential users.”

Deane says the upgrade has enabled TSTT to quickly reach critical mass and customers will soon see a value proposition that will be hard to resist. “The final numbers are still being crunched but we are going after an extremely competitive price point with rates for unlimited monthly broadband access starting as low as $79 a month! This is Broadband redefined.”

Deane says TSTT is very excited about these developments. “Broadband access is the single most important growth area in the communications industry because of the transformative power it has in business and social spheres.” He explains that TSTT is laying the ground work for customers to use broadband access for entertainment, research and education, communication, buying and selling, accessing Government services, health care and much more.

Deane is confident that TSTT’s macro broadband initiative will single-handedly give Trinidad and Tobago a quantum leap forward. “While we have placed a lot of emphasis on the wired network, we are simultaneously developing our wireless broadband coverage so there will be virtually universal affordable broadband access throughout Trinidad and Tobago, a feat that few anywhere else in the region can boast about.”

The service will be rolled out in three phases. Customers serviced off the West, San Juan and Diego Martin exchanges will be included in the first phase, while the second phase inclusive of four more exchanges is due to begin by mid November.

  1. Looks enticing but i’m afraid i’m not located in the current service area; that would put me in the same boat as all of south, east coast and high north. But even when they choose to venture fort into the southland, and slither through the bargee patch, covered with mosquitoes and stumble down the narrow roads with little or no street lights, until they end up behind God’s back, they’ll still be faced with the never ending problem of picking up the phone and finding it “DEAD.” Which is totally understandable because copper is coming in for top dollar these days. Which brings me to my other point, “How can you get billed when your line has been dead all month?” What service have they possibly provided to justify this, oh I know what, it must be that trendy living room ornament that has buttons and lights and if I remember correctly it rings as well!@#*%!

  2. I am anxious to take advantage of the new speeds/rates.
I am a current customer using 256/64 dsl on a 3 year contract of which I have 15 months to go.
I also have the speedstream 5200 router that they gave me back in Dec 2005 that cannot support 2M speeds.
Will I be automatically be bumped up to the new speed of 2M which is in line with what I am paying and given a new modem (maybe the Paradyme)?
Or will I just see a $79.00 charge on my next phone bill which is in keeping with my current Internet speed package under the new arrangement?
I’m hoping for an automatic upgrade.
Does anyone know what they intend to do?

  3. The offer is good. But I must admit that I was really disappointed when I found out (when I came to this website) that Blink is TSTT. Why is it that only when they have competition they suddenly realise that they could offer their customers a better rate?

  4. I just checked the blink website and I must agree with Zangolie. I live in South and we are not blink approved. People who do not live on the East-West corridor are the last on the list to receive good service.

  5. Looks interesting just hope that I can send e-mail presently I recieve but cannot send

  6. I have now check the new blink and it sounds interesting but i feel there is some catch to this just because it is tstt. You just cannot trust what you read.

  7. try the datd sim for mobile users must have a cell with GPRS tech eg.nokia 6230 or higher the cost is $150 a month unlimited works great for me not dsl but I get a download of 8 to 12 Kb you can use bluetooth
or data cable. tstt dont advertise this so you have to check them its set up for laptop users. hope this helps

  8. will I receive an immediate upgrade and at what cost. Because you know tstt always have something up their sleeve

  9. I am extremely interested in this new high speed internet service. When will it be rolled out to Santa Cruz which is one the fastest growing communities in Trinidad? My only concern is the numerous fees and charges that are required in order to signup. If you are coming sign up fees and hidden charges count me out will use my pigeon.

  10. Blink Sounds Ok But As Junior Said, There Must Be Some Catch To All This.. I Live In Chaguanas And I Think Blink Is Coming November – January.. I’ll Give Them A Call And Find Out A Bit More.. That 1MB Package Sounds Good..

  11. Blink sounds good ..but as the other persons had said south has to wait and is only when you visit the site we know it is TSTT .There is something more to this.

  12. I applied for broadband service more than six weeks ago and would like to know when can I expect the service.

  13. I kinda stumbled into this page, and I gotta say I’m surprised. It seems that Trinidad is years behind the rest of the Commonwealth Caribbean in its high-speed Internet access. Even in countries where CW still has an Internet monopoly the company has been steadily improving its speeds and reducing its prices. Additionally, the ping times to the rest of the world are excellent. Mine from St. Vincent to http://www.google.com (which is in California) average less than 150 ms. Internet real time strategy gaming (Warcraft III) and MMORPG gaming (World of Warcraft) is superb. I haven’t tried FPS gaming lately, but I think it’s passable.

That being said, it seems that the prices for Flow (http://www.flowtrinidad.com/click/content.cfm?contentID=DEA1C8E8-A398-426F-E381B748411A5C65) leave much of the rest Caribbean in the dust, so I guess they want to make amends for the past. Blink’s seem to be on par with the Windward Islands’. In case you want to compare the CW offerings elsewhere. $1 EC = ~$2.35 TT and $1BBD = $3.10 TT.

St. Lucia and Grenada: http://www.candw.gd/internet/solutions/adsl/adsl_packages.asp (St. Vincent’s the same, with an added 15% for Gov’t VAT.)

    Barbados: http://www.caribsurf.com/services/access/cwbroadband/packages.cfm

    Jamaica: http://home.cwjamaica.com/content/products_services

And, oh, if TSTT does as CW has, they’ll just bump up your speed so that you pay the same price.

  14. At 2mb(Blink)I am very interested,esp for TT$349.

  19. Hi,
I applied for blink broad band on 5th august. I’m yet to hear anything;I am willing to install the modem myself;I’m currently pursuing a distance learning programme and need high speed internet access. Please speed up my application.Thank you.

  20. At present I have wireless, which is good when it works.( WHEN ) I want to get blink but tstt service is very poor, It is the worst that I have encountered in all my travels (I am extensively travelled ) If the lines are not stolen then the switch is down; to be honest I have no confidence in the service provided by tstt.
Please give us the service that is required by a country aspiring to first world status.

  21. I live inthe chaguanas area where the service was particularly bad. However since monday the 29/10/08 ,the service has improved tremendously. TSTT have done some excellent upgrading maintenance.
I am now better satisfied (not fully ) and have since signed up for ‘blink’.I am now convinced that TSTT are seriously working towards international service standards; I hope that they continue to strive for excellence

  22. It is sad that Trinidadians don’t take full ownership of their rights as a Consumer. Yes, you have a right to complain if you don’t receive good service or feel mislead.
But you also have the responsibility as a Consumer to seek your own interest, read the fine print, compare the facts and don’t rush to a good deal from any service provider. As Trinidadians we would all have heard our grandparents and our parents say this ” Cheap thing not good and Good thing not cheap”. I hope everyone, no matter who they chose as their banker ( we have plenty competition there and messed up service), telecom provider or grocery ( all listed give bad service), chooses to stand up for their consumer rights and also live up to their consumer responsibility, AND STOP WAITING FOR THE BUSINESS OWNERS TO READ THEM THE FINE PRINT!

  23. Iwant to sign up for the $79.00 package but my land line phone has been down since december and no one has’nt fixed it yet Anyway how if i sign tstt would take i live at biche and are there any signing up package i hope not and i dont want any problem if i received

  24. i think blink sucks… for the past month and some days…. my internet connection has been switching on and off ( I am a blink customer). I’ve been calling them on regular occasions and over and over they’ve been telling me the same thing; “unplug your modem, go to some website and do the whole click WAN and tell me your status nonsense.” It’s the same thing over and over. They’ve sent one of their technicians over last week… he seemed to be bewildered as far as I could tell, as to what to do. the internet worked for one day and after that… back to the same old problem… I think I’m gonna go flow or something… I’m fed up of blink and their incapability to fulfill my basic needs… after all they are an internet company why can’t they fix this? Actually from now on… whenever i have something to say about that company… I’d usually say “try flow, or greendot… blink suck!”

  25. I’ve been waiting for blink over two months now could anyone tell me whats going on i find that is poor customer service!!!
