Elton got ‘special permit’ for jazz fest

Elton JohnSir Elton John had to be granted a special permit to enter Trinidad and Tobago for last month’s CL Financial Plymouth Jazz Festival because the pop star is openly gay.

A group of Tobago-based pastors referred to Section 8 (E) of the Prohibition Class of the Immigration Act, which states that the following should not be allowed on local shores:

“…Prostitutes, homosexuals or persons living on the earnings of prostitutes or homosexuals, or persons reasonably suspected as coming to Trinidad and Tobago for these and any other immoral purposes…”

  1. This law is upsurd and rediculous. Who ever thinks that they should keep this law, you should be ashamed. Whether Elton or anybody for that matter is gay or not, I don’t see why it should matter or why people are bothered by it. Its not your life.

  2. I wonder if Pastor Manning envisages such homophobic ignorance in his vision 20/20

  3. Tell the group of pastors to spend their time dealing with moral issues of their followers and siblings. Including the ones whose followers and daughters were breaking loose last jouvert, nightclubs, and other places they really worship but afraid to admit. I wondeer what strategies these folks used to attract their mates. Oh! I forgot they are all celebate. Give me a break, please!

  4. Which planet are these people living on. In bible times we had Sodom and Gamorrah and history is repeating itself just like fashion. Let people live their lives, if you dig deep in some of these pastors lives how many of the congregation female members they are having affairs with or have slept with. Don’t throw stones when you have glass windows. I have been to Buccoo party on a Sunday night and gay visitors openly flaunt themselves with the local men at the beach bar. Also how many killing and injuries happen in Tobago between gay & lesbian lovers, not to mention Trinidad. What about the gay & lesbian marches in Trinidad. The pastors have not openly come out to argue that immorality but they wanted an international voice without a face. Shame on you, be brave enough to identify yourselves. How many of you are gay at night and playing macho during the day? Clean up your own back yard before critising people who do not live on the island. Elton do not need tobago money or lifestyle, he could probably buy the whole island with his fortune. He did not beg to do a show in Tobago, he was invited.

  5. the issues i have with these types of things are simple…

    1) we in this country are aware of, to a great extent, the background of these artistes e.g. a gay performer like elton john and their types of performaces eg akon @ zen. why are we continuing to have them here if there are these “stringent” laws are in place.

    2) seeing that we are aware of, to a great extent, the background of these artistes and their performances, if we have a problem with them, just don’t advocate and stay at home! don’t go do their shows…

  6. Any one with the slightest decency goes against these Gay foundations.
These few comments show that we are close to being completely shredded of the little moral standard we had.
Whoever is pleased with this action should be wary…it could very well come your way! so be careful. especially if you have children.
