PM Patrick ManningThe PNM does not wash its dirty linen in public. Prime Minister Patrick Manning made this comment during the party’s 54th anniversary celebrations interfaith thanksgiving rally at Balisier House, Port-of-Spain, yesterday. Its theme was “We’ve come this far by faith.” Although he maintained the PNM did not interfere in the politics of other political parties, Manning boasted that the PNM model was the best with regard to internal organisation and discipline. “We take careful note of what goes on in other political parties…We want to know what not to do,” he said. He then waded into the practice of washing dirty linen in public. “If you find dirty linen being washed in public, it has to do with the method of selection,” Manning said.

“If you find people are washing their dirty linen in public, it is not the way of the PNM.” Commenting on the modus operandi of other political parties, Manning said: “Is it right to say what you want about what you want? Then you say yesterday was yesterday today, and today and tomorrow will see about itself. Then you expect we will put confidence in you.” Touching on the topic of alcohol, he said after World War II, the British elected Sir Winston Churchill even though he was a heavy drinker. “They needed somebody to hold the country together…After that they voted him out,” he said. “If we know somebody drinks, don’t you think we should know about it?”

  1. “We’ve come this far by faith.”

Dont ask any questions. Never doubt what is said by the leader. Never listen to the truth.

  2. Rubbish Rubbish Rubbish, this has to be the most dotish statement ever. What is washing dirty linen in public? The PM is telling us that we must accept his dictatorial type leadership he inherited from Williams that “not a damn dog bark”. The time we live in encourages free speech and the airing of our views. People should not be forced to accept everything a leader says, and by the way who made Manning god?

  3. Prime Minister Manning knows that if you cannot be easily divided, then you can not be easily defeated. It’s political strategy not malice or with bad intentions that on the surface the PNM looks like a dictatorship. It may be about issues of national security that the PNM operates in such a way.

    1. That is just rubbish, party matters has nothing to do with National Security. You must understand that leaders like Panday and Manning would want to ensure that they keep their leadership position at all cost. A political party is owned by the members/supporters not by the leader, who is merely appointed to guide the party according to the wishes of the people (not that is ever happen) but the principle remains. Blind loyalty plays a significant role in what a leader becomes. No leader should be allowed to tell anyone that they should not speak about party matters. In any instance, no one really speaks about party matters, rather they simply vent how they are treated when they raise issues, and this MUST always be encouraged, so that those who support parties could have a clear understanding who and what they support.

  4. Mr. Amps, what is so difficult for you to understand in Mr. Manning statement.. like he need to speak hindi for you or what?
It is called dignity .. We have been bombarded for so long by statments like, “politics have a morality of it’s own…”. It seem to be standard operating procedures to many like you who were indoctrinated .. It is about CULTURE man, it is about what we see as being right and wrong.
Yeah man, one man’s culture is another man’s sin.

Now deal with the issue.. IS SHE A DRUNKARD?!

    1. What does speaking Hindi have to do with anything, are you being racist, that has to be as equally as dotish as the PM’s statement.

  5. Manning is just playing smart. He washed his mouth on Rowley in public and now want to play saint. He don’t want PNMites to criticize him publicly for the upcoming elections.

    1. You are right in my opinion. I was being sarcastic with the national security statement. However, Prime Minister Manning know that if the PNM makes a statement concerning Payday’s loss, it will open up discussion led by critics to bring unwanted attention to the failings of his party.

      1. “so air one’s dirty linen or laundry. Expose private matters to public view, especially unsavory secrets. These metaphors are reworkings of a French proverb, Il faut laver son linge sale en famille(“One should wash one’s dirty linen at home”), which was quoted by Napoleon on his return from Elba(1815). It was first recorded in English in 1867″

Susan, leh me help you out…maybe you are not familiar with the saying…
now go help yourself and look up Webster for Criticize.

I missed the airing of Mr.Rowley’s dutty laundry…. care to enlighten.

  6. This is exactly the result predicted by kevin baldeosing. If panday had won, the issue of elections in other parties would be a whisper but because of his loss, people are starting to focus their attention on manning.

Unfortunately, the PNM constitution provides for a dictatorial type leadership but I have to agree with Roger. The culture is different in the various parties. Education influences culture more than anything else and it is greatly lacking in the PNM.

    Eg.
Imagine me intentionally offending a blogger based on his opinion differing from my own and then following up with,”It is about CULTURE man, it is about what we see as being right and wrong.”

Now, to deal with the issue of kamla being a drunkard we have to ask the question:”Considering that Chutney-soca is so focused on alcohol, is rum a part of indo-trinbagonian culture?”

  7. Allyuh jokey we…
How do y’all access this Blog? Do you EVER read any of the articles on these websites?
Atheist, ah doh even know weh ‘Baleezaa House’ is… furthermore, ah doh even know how tuh spell it.

  8. Balisier. Try taking a look at the PNM constitution and see that they will have to change it in order to have fair internal elections.

  9. Manning and Panday in the same boat, politically dutty! As doh they forgot how much dirty linen they washed in public already. Manning will never be defeated in an internal election under the PNM constitution. Dr.ROWLEY knows that!
