Psychologists weigh in on growing violence

“He is most likely not a psychopath, based on the initial report. This is a crime of passion. It is situational. It is not a personality characteristic,” said psychologist Courtney Boxill.
“A psychopath is somebody who commits heinous crimes and his conscience does not bother him, and further more he does not care about the punishment that he may face in the future.”

  1. Finally, people in Trinidad and Tobago are beginning to link corporal punishment (licks) in the home and school, to the violent society we have created. For years, informed people have been saying this, myself included, while Professor Deosaran advocated a return to licks, and others call for the return of the CAT for criminals.

I have made the point before, that wherever children and adults are physically beaten in an attempt to change behaviour, is a society where slavery was rampant. They publicly flog in Pakistan and India as well as Singapore. They learned it from the British as we did. I hope the low point that our society has reached in terms of crime, will give rise to more serious thought as to how to combat crime, and how to raise kind caring children into non-violent adults. If a child lives with hate he learns to hate. If he lives with hitting, he waits until he is old enough, big enough, to hit back. This research is old.
