Re: Down with the Sell-Outs
In Response To: Down with the Sell-Outs ()

What of the Chinese? The Chinese were also hoodwinked and brought to the Americas after the aboliton of African Slavery, they had no problem assimilating. In fact "Black Chinese" is a common label in Trinidad. Do you consider an African man with a Chinese last name a sell-out? The Chinese are honored in Cuba for their contribution in Cuba's war for liberation from Spain. Jamaica's Black population is peppered with the genes of the Asiatic; Are those Chinos in Cuba or Jamaica sell-outs? Why did Ide Amin so desperately want to be rid of "Indians" in his native Uganda?
Gypsies originated in India, and through out history where ever they migrated to, the native population had a problem with them. From the newly labeled "Indo-Trinidadians" to the "Dot-heads" on the fringe of every European metropolis all are viewed with suspicion because of their separatist ways. They are viewed as making no contribution to the community they inhabit. In order for a community to succeed it requires all members participating. If Trinidadians of African descent want to be Africans I say go back to Africa and all Indians can do likewise. My heritage is much more complicated. The blood of the now extinct autochthonous Trinidadian runs in my veins. Who speaks for them?
