The Israeli arrested by the Arouca police on Friday is actually Russia-born and was still being interrogated up to late yesterday.
The man, reported to be in his 30s, was arrested after the couple with whom he was staying in a wooden shack in the forest of the Northern Range, became suspicious of him and reported him to Crime Stoppers.
The Sunday Express was told that the foreigner, who had befriended the couple, had been repeatedly telling them that he had to go to the Immigration Division in Port of Spain to see about his "papers".
While he was out one day, the couple found his passport and called 800-TIPS in the hope that they would get a reward.
When he was arrested, police also seized an immigration stamp.
The Sunday Express understands that he was questioned yesterday by Immigration officers, the International Police (Interpol) and members of the CID.
Up to late last night no charges had been laid against him.
