You clearly missed the point, in defusing racial tension the government should at all cost avoid any involvement in sponsoring ethnic individuality whether it be African, Chinese, Indian Syrian etc.
If we are to go down the road you're suggesting then we'd have to have a holiday for every single ethnic group in this country and our treasury will be bogged down by paying for the cultural heritages of the different races. I would much prefer my tax dollars go towards fixing Port of Spain General hospital and taking the homeless off the street. Indian arrival day and Emancipation day are a waste of two days that could have been other wise been used in a productive manner at school or in the office. Now we have the Chinese getting a day, who next the Syrians?
All ethnic holidays should be abolished, they only breed individuality and separatism amongst the multiethnic society that exist in this country. One's national identity must at all times take precedence over one's ethnicity.
An example for you.....remember those bombings in in England, the bombers of pakistani descent were not referred to as Indians, even though they clearly were, they were referred to as Brits, and that is how it should be. The thing with Trinidadians is they fail to realize that the words 'Indian' and 'African' are used interchangeably when one is talking about an ethnicity, or nationality, that nationality being a national of India or Africa.
