Public holiday today

The message from the Office of the Prime Minister at Whitehall:
"Prime Minister Patrick Manning announced that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago has declared Thursday, 17th November, 2005, as a public holiday in celebration of Trinidad and Tobago's victory in the World Cup qualifying match against Bahrain (this afternoon).
"Information received from football officials in Bahrain indicates that the entire team, with the exception of Russell Latapy, is scheduled to arrive in Trinidad and Tobago at 12.05 p.m. tomorrow. The Government encourages citizens to use the holiday to participate fully in the welcome celebrations which will start at the Piarco International Airport and continue with a drive to Port of Spain," the release said.
Public holiday today for Warriors' victory
THE Government late yesterday evening announced via a faxed press release that today has been declared a public holiday to commemorate the 1-0 victory by the TT Warriors over Bahrain, which booked this country's place in the 2006 World Cup Finals in Germany.
According to the press release, Prime Minister Patrick Manning made the announcement following news out of Bahrain that the TT National Football team, except for Russell Latapy, will be arriving home today at 12.05 pm.
The Government therefore decided to make today a public holiday to allow the public to use the day to participate fully in celebrations over the historic football achievement.
The Government has encouraged citizens to come out in their numbers to greet the triumphant Warriors at Piarco International Airport, and then to Port-of-Spain.
The Warriors qualified for World Cup in Germany with a tense 1-0 victory over Bahrain in that country yesterday.
Defender Dennis Lawrence headed in the game's only goal in the second half.
The first game, which was played less than a week ago at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, ended in a 1-1 draw.
Cabinet will meet for its weekly sessions at Whitehall today at 9.30 am.
