Hurricane Ivan lashed Jamaica's coast but did not make a direct hit.
The Jamaica High Commission in London said there had been two confirmed deaths on the island.
A 10-year-old girl drowned in Old Harbour in St Catherine and an old woman was killed in the Mountain View area of the capital Kingston when a tree struck her home.
A spokeswoman said: "There is widespread flooding and high winds, especially on the western side. There have been very little reports of looting. The police, especially in Kingston, have acted swiftly to minimise it."
