Re: Ignorance abounds

Well i'm not sure exactly what you mean by intellectual immorality but it does not take much to see how the colonial legacy has remained and permeated every aspect of Trinidad life. In their ignorance people are blind and are plagued by insecurities and fears in every aspect of their life.
Look at the prisons? Who are labeled the criminals?

Look the the state media?

Are the views and access balanced? Look at the education system? Is it empowering our people? Well the answer is a resounding NO!!!! All these social mechanisms (education system, religions, family etc) are not leading towards people having a proper understanding of themselves but rather they are just reeinforcing the myths, distortions and illusions. People are being conditioned systematically to be blind and push utopian notions that only ignore and exacerbate the problems. The blind is leading the blind.

Many are stuck in 'negro'land and do not understand themselves or the context in which they exist. Many are stuck in 'rainbow' land where they have rejected their indianess or Africaness for some illusice abstract trinidadness. As if being African/Indian and being Trinidanian is contradictory. Even to discuss race, classism or gender is deemed divisive, hatred or racism. But how could something be divided if it was never united in the first place. They only unity that is realized is the very superficial unity that happens when everybody 'come out to fete or party'or something of the sort.So most are in a state of self denial about the subtle pervasive nature of racism that exists in activities and institutions.

Meaningful change can only come fromthose that have the experiece and consciousness needed to act desicisively. Those who are blinded and who are victims cannot lead the movement for change without unblinding themselves. Also those that have been the most oppressed and subjected to the worse that the system has to offer are most suited to lead the movement for change, once they are informed.
