Posted: Sunday, March 24, 2024

WASA to spend $1B on wells, 2 small desal plants
WASA will focus on a refurbishment exercise of its infrastructure, mainly its water treatment plants, the installation of pipelines, drilling wells, and building mini desalination plants as part of the programme. Four years ago, Gonzales said, only 32 per cent of T&T's population had 24/7 access to water. Today, that figure has increased to 61 per cent.

WASA to cut 200 positions
PUBLIC Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales says the "restructuring process, especially the leadership restructuring", of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is "well under way" as he announced yesterday the new "executive leadership package" will target 426 managers of the State water provider with the aim of "seeking to reduce that by about 50 or 40%".

The residents, who have been forced to purchase water for $300 a truckload—forking out between $600 and $1,800 per household per month—are breathing a sigh of relief as they are now being provided with a free supply daily from the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), while Government is also working apace to complete installation of 2.4 kilometres of pipelines in the district by month end.

JSC urges more special needs teachers at ECCEs
The report said most teachers were not trained in special needs education to meet the needs of students with psycho-educational and developmental challenges.

"While teachers may attempt to support students as best as they can, more severe cases were usually beyond the capacity of the teachers' capabilities," the report said.

12 SSA employees fired, 9 linked to criminal conduct
At least five of the fired members, including Joanne Daniel, are from the cyber defence and cyber operations units. The son of Pastor Ian Brown, the self-proclaimed 67-year-old spy of the SSA, was also attached to that unit. Brown has now been stripped of his SRP status by the TTPS.
