Kangaloo, due to her position as Senate President, usually acts as President in President Paula-Mae Weekes' absence, and did so recently also. Kangaloo was tipped after the December 23 notice that the Electoral College will meet on January 20, 2023, to elect a President.

Trini in US illegally held with US$9M in cocaine
A judge has denied bond to a Trinidadian national accused of having $9 million worth of cocaine in his car while out on bond for a murder charge.

Deputies from the Criminal Enforcement Unit stopped Sheldon Alexander, 34, of Los Angeles, California, last Monday for speeding on the I-95 in South Carolina.

The sheriff's office said a deputy's K-9 alerted authorities that something else was inside Alexander's car. During the search, deputies said they found 118 pounds (54 kilos) of cocaine, $182,000 in cash and a gun.

Man killed in crash near UWI
According to a police report, about 9 am, Andy Alleyne was driving a black Jaguar along the eastbound lane when he attempted to avoid two crossing pedestrians. Alleyne reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. One of Alleyne's arms was severed during the crash and he was pinned behind the steering wheel, where he died.

Teen killed while liming in Mt D'or
Police said Tishawn Mansano was from River Branch Road, Kelly Village. He and three other men, aged 26, 20 and 19, were liming along on Mt D'or Road, Champs Fleurs, around 9.25 pm when armed gunmen approached them in a vehicle. The gunmen opened fire on them before escaping.
