The NGO head lamented the length of time it takes for road traffic collision cases to be heard before the courts. She cited the case of nine-year-old Sachin Maharaj, who was killed with four other people in a horrific minibus crash in 2009. The case has been before the courts for the past 13 years.

She urged the Government to introduce demerit points and fines for drivers involved in road traffic incidents involving "vulnerable road users," a term used to describe pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
