When Government ministers talk of sacrifice, ­people often retort: why don't you sacrifice, given your salary and perks? Here’s a look at the figures:
- Salary: $41,000
- Transportation Allowance of $6,660 per month
- A personal chauffeur
- 85 return tickets per annum, by air, to Tobago
- Tobago Allowance: $6,330 per month
- A Subsistence Allowance of $2,000 per month
- Housing: $12,360 per month
- An annual Travel Grant of $36,800 per annum

T&T to host first Caribbean Investment Forum
Billed as the "largest gathering of businesses since Covid-19" in the region, CIF 2022 is being hosted by the Barbados-based Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) in collaboration with the T&T Government, Caricom, the Caribbean Development Bank, the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies and with the support of the European Union.
The organisers said the November 8-11 event is intended to help build a "SMARTer, GREENer Caribbean".

Social Development cuts $182 million from budget after fraud uncovered
Defending the allocation during the committee, Minister Donna Cox said the reduction was a direct result of findings of fraud in the ministry as it relates to senior citizens grants. In 2021 the line item was allocated $4.3 billion, which was reduced to $4.1billion.

This, as the PNM opens nominations from 8 am to 4 pm on Monday for its upcoming executive elections. Voting will be a three- day process over November 26 to 27 with the final leg at the PNM's convention on December 4.

The 16 posts including leadership–held by Prime Minister Keith Rowley –are open for contest. The term is until 2026.

"A bold move on Karen's path. We don't know the kind of support that she has. We know that an outsider within the party will have it very hard to overturn Dr Rowley's leadership but to the extent that there is support for her and I believe that people are voting by secret ballots so nobody can know how they voted. Karen is probably relying on that," James added.

US Embassy on travel advisory: 'TT not targeted'
THE US Embassy has partly explained its latest travel advisory for citizens visiting Trinidad and Tobago, saying the update was "due to a change in health restrictions for covid19," and that the advisories "do not target specific countries."

Money to protect monkeys, ocelots in budget
The fund allocated $615,000 to the "designation and management of the red howler and white-fronted capuchin monkey." It also allocated $160,000 for a management plan for the ocelot.

The endangered pawi bird will be protected by a $495,000 allocation for a "revision of priority actions of the management and recovery of the pawi." No sums were allocated for any of these in the two years prior.

Schoolboy, 15, shot dead, dumped in abandoned house
An anonymous informant told officers at the Ste Madeleine Police Station that her 14-year-old and seven-year-old children were in company with Videsh and two brothers around 3 pm on Saturday. She refused to identify herself or her children. She said one of the brothers had a firearm and shot Videsh and they later dumped his body in an abandoned blue house at the back of the pluck shop. The informant refused to give further information.

Thieves rob elderly Chaguanas couple
Bhagaloo said he was awakened by the men who robbed him of a Nissan B14 motor car, $1,200 in cash, a wacker, cellphone and an LPG gas tank.

Bhagaloo said he told the men that he and his common law wife were suffering from a number of ailments when they demanded that he get into the car with them.

Bandits held for robbing Valencia doubles vendor
Police said at around 1.55 am, the vendor was at home at La Platta Gardens with his workers preparing for the day's sale when they saw three men walking through the yard. The bandits stormed the house and ordered the vendor and workers to lie on the ground. The workers were beaten and robbed of their jewellery, cellphone and a total of $7,000 in cash.

Man dies at Caura River
According to police reports, Seales was with a group of persons at Pool 1 in Caura when at about 6:30 pm he went into the water with a 37-year-old woman he knows.

Five injured in drive-by shooting
According to reports, at about 9:20 pm, a group of 15 persons was liming at the corner of Pashley Street and Troumacaque Road in Laventille when a silver Toyota Axio stopped near the group.
