764 TEEN ABORTIONS
A WHOPPING 764 abortions (termination of pregnancy) were conducted on girls between the ages of 13 to 19, at the nation's public hospitals between 2011 and 2015, Attorney General Faris Al Rawi revealed yesterday. The abortion statistics do not account for those conducted at private clinics or the 'backyard' abortion done in secret and by persons not trained in medicine or surgery.
548 child marriages over last 10 years
THERE has been an increase in child marriages over the past two decades, with 548 certified marriages of children between the ages of 12 and 16, occurring during a ten-year period, from 2006 to 2016, Attorney General Faris Al Rawi said yesterday.
