Carlos John files goes to DPP

Newsday

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Geoffrey Henderson has received a file regarding a police probe into monies allegedly paid to United National Congress (UNC) member, Carlos John, sources told Newsday.

Newsday learned that the John file was received by DPP Henderson on Monday, and was handed to him by the Anti Corruption Investigations Bureau (ACIB), whose head is Sr Supt Maurice Piggott.

DPP Henderson yesterday declined comment. The source told Newsday that Henderson will deal with the file “like any other matters”. Newsday also learned that the file went straight to Henderson, to prevent leaks.

Piggott and a team of officers from his department had visited John’s Maraval home on June 6, requesting financial documents, relating to his personal accounts and in particular a cheque for $500,000.

Back then, John had told Newsday that he co-operated with the police and photocopied the documents and gave them to the officers.
