Re: Indo-Trinis treated as second-class citizens

Should we be specifically looking for Indians or Africans to honour?

I was really hoping the gang of objectors would enlighten us beyond ‘The Naipaul Bridge.’
For those Objectors on/off the Board who feel that resistance to our National Library being named after V.S. Naipaul makes legitimate the claim that Naipaul has been slighted by any Political administration should think again.

This “most outstanding Indian born Trinidadian who has received international recognition” eliminated the importance of recognising Trinidad as his homeland.
Treating Trinidad/Tobago and India as Low Class Nations.
We should not insult the integrity of whatever National Pride we have left by honouring that.

Not that I think it’s all about honouring Africans or Indians but for those who seek to substantiate the assertion that Indo Trinis are treated as second class citizens, those who are using this episode to gratify an agenda. Those who cannot see that we have all suffered discrimination in one-way or another.
I encourage them to submit more Names. (Can “they” think of anyone else?)

Those who cannot see beyond V.S. Naipaul, those who cannot authenticate the struggle, sacrifice, and success of other Indo-Trinis,
I submit…
Miss Anna Mahase,
Former Principal of St Augustine Girls High School.
Recipient of the Public Service Medal of Merit Gold. {EDUCATION}
An excellent Educator and an Administrator of high Educational Standards.
…………………………………………..
Mr. Shaheed Mohammed,
Principal of San Fernando Technical Institute.
With that Technical Institute for the past 33yrs
A Lecturer for the past 10yrs
The recently retired Principal was one of his ‘own’ Students.
The History of his Students success far to many to mention.
………………………………………….
There are More, but I leave room for the Objectors to introspect, widen their prospective and submit some suggestions of their own.

To maintain my own Balance I also recognize Michael Anthony, not an Indo- Trini but a son of the soil who have not disrespected our National Pride.

The naming of our National Library cannot be limited to Naipaul.
[“Honour demands adherence to a Public Code, not protection of a reputation.”] BD/LS

I asked for other recommended names simply because there’s no need to honour an insult.
