Re: Press Rights: If Only the Truth Were Known...
This article certainly gives a very lucid account of the undue influence that publishers and others play in shaping the news even in English speaking Caribbean states that profess to be wholesome democracies. What it also shows is that we share a common problems throughout the Caribbean , and it is more reason why we should join forces to fight the insidious evils that strive to ensure that poverty, crime, underdevelopment , and backward unsavory political or economic actions by so called leaders remains the norm. Thank God for the internet, we might just be able to bypass some of these narrow minded and skewed corporate media entities.
There is much work to be done however before we can get something like an http://www.democracynow.org/ or http://english.aljazeera.net/ going. I am heartened by the fact that this article was submitted by a young student with such wide ranging social interest, and deep rooted historical consciousness. It shows that there is still some hope for our region –and by extension the global community at large. Let’s keep the faith, while we reach for the sky with our feet on the ground. I thank you.
