Top PNM official charged with fraud

By Samuel Mcknight

A top PNM official is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate today on six charges arising out of fraud allegations made against him.

A warrant was reportedly signed yesterday and was expected to be served late last night, or early this morning.

According to reports, acting senior Supt Glenroy Woodley, head of the Fraud Squad, received instructions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Monday.

Investigations revealed that a few minor details were being dealt with up to press time, and the top official was being given the opportunity to surrender to the police, and is expected to do so this morning.

The charges were laid after several months of investigation and submitted to the DPP.

The official was accused of accepting a bribe to secure contracts. The man making the allegations against the official claimed that he had paid thousands of dollars to secure certain contracts, but he never received the contracts.

Sources confirmed the PNM official will surrender at 8 am with his lawyers today at the Fraud Squad office.

Two of the charges include misbehaving in a public place, and accepting a bribe.
