Cops charged for two kidnappings

Four policemen and a La Horquetta community leader will appear before magistrates at Arima and Port-of-Spain courts on Monday, charged with kidnapping a Venezuelan national and Imran Hosein.

The two constables, two special reserve policemen and the 29-year-old community leader were positively identified in connection with the crimes at Arouca Police Station and Port-of-Spain CID yesterday.

Sources said the community leader had several drug-related matters pending.

Police reports state that on May 1, three men bundled a Venezuelan man into a car at Trincity Mall.

However, he escaped and reported the incident at Arouca Police Station.

Acting on information received, investigators interviewed a Trincity man and went in search of the policemen, who were attached to Traffic Branch.

In an urelated incident, the other policemen were charged with kidnapping Hosein.

The policemen, who are stationed at the Woodbrook station, were arrested on Thursday.

Hosein, 21, of Third Street East, De la Marre, Trincity, was kidnapped just after leaving a friend’s house on Second Street West, Montague, Trincity.

He is the son of a businessman who owns two stationery stores.

Hosein escaped on April 24 after he was kept in a shallow hole in Morvant.

A $1 million ransom was demanded for his release.
