Sad New Rules

I read an article "Sad New Rules" by the Express's Ira Mathur, and believe it to be misleading. She talks about the unemployment rate in the U.S. and UK. She says that they have a higher employment rate than those countries that don't believe in tax incentives for big business and hints that basically government sponsered programs have suffered for this or shouldn't have to. She goes on to campare the super power and it's ally to countries such as Austria, Switzerland, Norway, and the Netherlands. Does anyone see the difference in the reasons why those nations in which she praises are able to employ such a system?

The U.S. and the U.K. have the highest immigration rate out of the countries listed. They have to keep manufacturing cost to a minimal so that employment can grow. They always have unskilled labor comming in. The four favorable countries she promotes not only have low birth rates, but they don't have many immigrants comming in. They're economies can stand to be regulated because they're populations have stabilized. To sum it up, these "favorable nations" aren't growing so in return they can afford to regulate not only the citizenss, but also their industry. For Countries in the developing world, tough love is needed. All of this talk about wanting more money and being greedy when the very existamce of what you hold to be so dear is in danger of being lost forever is ediculous. Either way, if your going to survive, you have to modernize.

Lets look at what happens if you don't get tough. Some have money some won't as always. The social fabric is torn. Big business won't invest in the nation because it is not cost effective to do so. Many Educated proffessionals will be displaced, and accepting employment positions in which they are over qualiffied for forcing the middle class to do the sam to an already growing lowerclass. Unemployment wil grow, and social services will cease to exist.

Now, if you get tough now and work hard with the right legislation that gradually allows business to stabilize before spending more, then everyone enjoys a win, win situation. Big business comes and hires more people. They have money and spend money. Money spent is not only taxed, but used for social services that can benefit roads, law enforcement, and communities. In return, you will see less crime, and more social cohesveness and unity on social subjects. Sounds like a fairy tale because we know it's not going to be as perfect as I said. However, it definately is a system that could work in a country that needs to attract international funds. It would work because it is a country with a highlyskilled work force. It could succeed because Trinibagonians care about their country, children, and culture. To allow big business to be scared away would be the same as saying you don't care about your future. Parents of T-N-T must take the dive to ensure that their culture, country and most importantly, children survive and thrive.

I am not saying big business should run rapid without regard to Trini values and culture. I'm just saying that the people have to make up their minds on how much they care about the future. Do you want your kids worrying about bling- bling ( U.S. popular term for expensive jewelry, cars, clothes, houses, etcc) or would you rather them have a a country where people are not only held in high regard for their precious resources and tourist playgrounds, but their rediness to exploit not only their own culture and become the New Jamaica MON?

Lets not be selfish in satisfying our own wants when we can do so much more for those who need. Your children need a country where they can always call home. They need a country that they can always justifiably be proud of. They need a country where woman is as free as man and all races are equal. They need a country thats going to provide them with the best interest in life (within reason) than any other place on Earth. They need a country to care about and want to be responsible for. It starts with tough love for those who want to impede social and economic growth. After that, I think it is only fair that the people decide to be the judgement for those who want to attack the future of the children and the progress of a nation. These are exciting times, and I hope you all are paying close attention.
