BBC to fine tune NBN

www.guardian.co.tt

The British Broadcasting Corporation has been given a contract to reorganise the National Broadcasting Company.

President of the Senior Staff Association of T&T Martin Bazil said he did not have much information on the matter but disclosed a BBC consultant was advised to come up with a business plan for the troubled company.

However, the unions representing NBN workers have advised them to not accept any VSEP packages from management.

The unions - the Electronic Media Union of T&T, SSATT and the Union of Commercial and Industrial Workers - held a news conference yesterday at the company’s Maraval Road, Port-of-Spain office.

The unions are calling on Labour Minister Larry Achong to intervene.

EMUTT president Anthony Garcia, who said workers are being mentally terrorised by management, added that negotiations keep breaking down.

He said the unions received information that on March 15 the company would begin locking workers out of the compound.

The company is expected to close its doors on April 30. (GK)
