They want Chaguaramas land for Christmas

The Chaguaramas Legal Land Owners (CLLO) assembled yesterday at the borderline of Carenage and Chaguaramas to occupy land they say is rightfully theirs — and they want to take possession by Christmas.

Augustin Noel, leader of CLLO, told Sunday Newsday that earlier in the day another land owner placed a no trespassing sign on his land which was quickly taken away by a Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) guard.

“We placed it there and the very rude and obscene guard came and he went with it, but we would be back, do not worry,” Noel said.

“These lands here are ours and we are going to do whatever it takes to get it back,” he said. Noel displayed many documents showing the areas in Trinidad and Tobago that were leased by the United States of America.

“Nowhere in these documents states that Chaguaramas lands were leased but yet still we are going through so much to get our lands,” he said.

He explained that in 2004 he was granted permission by the court to occupy more than five acres of land.

“Up to now I am still getting trouble for it and the land was given to me,” Noel said.

They plan on making another attempt at occupying the lands today at 6 am.

“We are going back to put up another sign because that land is ours and they are trespassing on it,” he said.
