Time to heal, reconcile and conciliate

By Stephen Kangal
July 01, 2021

Stephen KangalThe work and deliberations of the Committee of the Whole on the two Tobago Self Government Bills have been adjourned sine die.

The PMTT has indicated that they may not come back to the House before September and may even lapse by December. This is the low measure of seriousness attributed to Tobago’s autonomy after the obscene “gallerying” of Monday, Tuesday and today Wednesday by Rowley and his gang of copy-cat neophytes.

Is it not now possible, mandatory and indeed very responsible during this very planned forced interregnum for the important consultations that were demanded to be held in Trinidad as well as in Tobago could be re-started/ resumed and completed in about a month and the changes submitted via the Opposition or the AG and factored into the Article by Article consideration in the resumed deliberations of the Committee of the Whole when the House is resumed in September after the July-August break?

Is not the granting of self-governance and autonomy to Tobago now a matter of urgent national concern because the THA is in a non-functional bind and the current governance interim arrangements quite undemocratic and perhaps illegal?

Or is it not now eminently compulsory for the Rowley Government to seek to engage the UNC Opposition rather than this premature and quite outlandish decision to remove the Constitutional amending clauses?

Or should not the PMTT and the Leader of the Opposition now meet and sort out the differences of approach so that the parliamentary process for the granting of self-government to Tobago with its Tobago Government ( I do not like the use of the word “Island” because it is equivalent to a ward) can be resumed on the basis of a mutually agreed way forward to allow this matter to be satisfactorily decided and concluded in a harmonious atmosphere for the benefit of all Tobagonians. Posterity demands this.

Time is now no longer limited to the legislators if they were and are indeed quite serious as they say they are about Tobago’s right to govern themselves within the unitary statehood of T&T.

During that proposed meeting is it not possible and highly desirable that in the interest of good governance, decency, political maturity and the exacting standards of statesmanship that the granting of self-governance to Tobago should be resumed, transacted and conducted in a non-adversarial setting devoid of attacks and counter-attacks and pure unbridled animosity with an impartial emancipated Speaker presiding?

The conduct and transaction of the political and parliamentary business of our country can rise above non-consensus-building petty politics because the antagonism, pure hate and venom being spewed by the Government with the main culprit being the PMTT and his obscene and recalcitrant Minister of National Security has begun to reverberate, resonate, transmitted into and copied by the COVID-beleaguered and unemployed starving national community.

Since 2015 parliamentary displayed hate is generating and creating waves and more waves of deep wounds., fissures and inter-communal stress that cannot be good for the progressive development of our people who must dwell together in peace, harmony and mutual respect because God has His vineyard here and He is Trinbagonian.

Parliament sets the tone for national peaceful co-existence and inter-communal solidarity and harmony.

We cannot any longer proceed along this rocky and perilously mined national path. There must be a cessation of political hostilities and spite.

That is unbecoming of T&T as quite a literate and politically savvy state.

Some high-level intervention by true patriots and elder statesmen has to be undertaken to rescue T&T from impending armageddon because COVID is creating serious psychological and survival stress and we can do without the fighting and filibustering with a Speaker fanning the flames of this internecine conflagration that can consume those of us left here post-COVID carnage.

  1. Nothing is going to happen on Tobago…Rowley was afforded extra time and he used it to bash the Opposition instead of using it to appeal to them.

Tobagonians have changed under the PNM. I remembered a more easy going people but today because of PNM propaganda they view Indo Trinis as invaders. It is true that their economy depend on the large influx of Indo Trinis. Along with massive grants.

As a friend of mines who prefers coming to Tobago via direct flight from Canada said a Tobagonian told her ten year old son Indo Trinis brought the virus to the island. The poor idiot does not know that a large number of Afro Trinis travel to and from Trinidad on a daily and weekly basis. But that is what the PNM has done during their election campaigns poison the minds of the people.

As for self governance, the THA is already governing. If Tobago wants to make their own laws, have their own currency, manage their finances, then there should be a clean break from Trinidad. The PNM will not do it because they need those two easy seats, that determined the last election.

    1. The racist UNC poisoned the already warped mind of its supporters to migrate to tobago to squat and take over the island. African tobagonians are damned right to reject that racist, nefarious UNC, indian agenda. African tobagonians gave the UNC “two easy seats” in 1986, 1995 and 2010, and the racist indian politicians and their supporters rewarded that show of faith with racist abuse, mass squatting and attempted theft of land and general racial disrespect and ingratitude. The PNM didn’t CAUSE the resulting backlash, indian racism and malice caused that. Look in the mirror! Hilton Sandy was damn right!
Tobagonians are not dumb, they can read literature and writings on the wall!

  2. Indian politics. Kangal has the nerve to use the word “obscene”, while accusing the government, not kangal’s hindutva UNC, of spewing hate. If kangal could accuse Dr. Rowley and the government of “spewing hate”, what is his analysis of his queen kamla’s behaviour, and the opposition’s “stink mouth” parliamentary decorum?
The UNC and its agents want to define reality according to their warped concept of morality. Kangal has as much credibility as devant and sat.The people who voted for kamla and the UNC in 2015 and 2020,, are entirely responsible for the dangerous direction T&T is heading. Kangal needs a mirror.

    1. You are such an emotional person inconvenient . Trinidad has morphe into a dictatorship and is sliding down to the abyss. Everything for you is caste, Hinduvta, etc. Just for the record Mr Kangal represented Trinidad and Tobago in the various missions he led. He is a distinguished Presbyterian who understands where this country is and where it is going. This is how deformed your thinking is Mr. Inconvenient or should I say Mr. Balisier bush.

“The people who voted for kamla and the UNC in 2015 and 2020,, are entirely responsible for the dangerous direction T&T is heading. Kangal needs a mirror” Let’s examine your mental dyslexia. (1) Kamla left $30 billion extra in the HSF. Rowley used it all up. (2) Kamla built 4 hospitals a South UWI campus amongst others. The Couva Hospital is being used for Covid patients. The UWI south campus a step down Covid facility. (3) Kamla gave laptops to children, Rowley gave none. Thousands of poor children fell behind or dropped out because when Covid hit schools closed. One child in south used her cellphone to do her lessons. (4) The sea bridge was working well with the super fast Galicia. The PNM crash the sea bridge in the process 25% of Tobago economy died.

The list of missteps failures of the Rowley regime is endless. When will it end??? Without the astute leadership of Kamla TnT would have been a pariah nation devoid of progress.

  3. Saying something for the sake of saying does NOT necessarily make it so. Mamoo, I know you are pro-UNC and that OK but we on the other side are not stupid. Your claims are as true as Donald Trump’s claim that he was cheated out of the election.

    Mamoo says:
    (1) Kamla left $30 billion extra in the HSF. Rowley used it all up.
    2) Kamla built 4 hospitals a South UWI campus amongst others. The Couva Hospital is being used for Covid patients.
    (3) Kamla gave laptops to children, Rowley gave none. Thousands of poor children fell behind or dropped out because when Covid hit schools closed.
    (4) The sea bridge was working well with the super fast Galicia. The PNM crash the sea bridge in the process 25% of Tobago economy died.
    1. Dont pull wool over we eye. The forensic audit conducted after Kamla lost the election showed that a total of $29,000,000 was unaccounted for. It would have been nice if she left really left the $30 billion you wished she left.
    2. Kamla used taxpayers money to build a building she claims was a hospital. You can’t construct a building and then say its a hospital. Where were the necessary medical equipment to at least make it look like a hospital? Where were the plans to staff it? Where were the plans to identify the purpose of the hospital?
At first she said it was a gift from China. Then it turned out to be built by the Chinese but we still had to pay for it.
    3. I did not know that it was necessary to compete by showing how many computers can be given to children (sounds childlike to make such comparisons).
    4. Oh yeah the sea bridge? As it turned out – just another case like the OPVs. She has a knack for doing the wrong things.
Mamoo, maybe, just maybe we would like to hear you quote Kamla giving a national speech to the nation without racial and ethnic overtones that’ll uplift those who do not necessarily subscribe to the UNC. That would be a start.

    1. Simple questions for you Kian since you can’t seem to give credit to where credit is due. (1) why did Rowley denied children laptops? (2) why only one of the 12 interceptor boats at Staubles is functional and no gas for the rest. (3) why the deficit is $125 billion and growing under Rowley? (4) why over several schools nearing completion was not completed? (5)why over 103,000 citizens out of work when under Kamla unemployment stood at 3.5%. (6) why the economy flatlined in 2017 ? (7) why $19 billion for Covid disappeared?

Please Kian avail your dirty mind here.

      1. Mamoo, you have not adequately answered any of my questions and as usual just posts opinions. Opinions are dime a dozen and as far as I am concerned not worth addressing
        because it’s self serving.

    2. Kian & Yoruba, you MUST get Bernard Yawching’s book!

The Hidden History Of Race Relations in Trinidad & Tobago.

      1. Dear Mr. Inconvenient:
This is a blog, not a room to promote your book or the book of others. If you want to do that please get an advertising company to do that. I notice you have been trying to sell your version of life on this board. That half breed Ywaning need to get a life.
The moderator needs to stop this. Nothing wrong if the one making their commentary promote their book. Else I can come here and start promoting a whole series of books.

  4. The rise of a dictatorship:
I don’t watch the Parliamentary channel much but the debate on Tobago draw me to listen in on the happenings. Towards the end the winding up of the debate I was shocked to see the PM given an additional hour.

Dr. Rowley is a good speaker for 20 minutes after that he starts rambling on and he began to say the most stupid things. He started out good but along the way all he did was attacked the Opposition. Rowley is a street fighter and it does not take much to see the intemperate wajang in him emerge.

The House Speaker is one of the most pro PNM house speaker in the history of house speakers. The dear lady seems not to understand her role or simply does not care about democracy. At every opportunity she treats the Opposition as though they are a waste of time. Not understanding they represent over 300,000 voters in the honorable republic. Her dictatorial qualities emerge everytime she stands to her feet…she bellows “I am on my feet”. It is usually to chastise the Opposition or applaud the PNM. I remember seeing a debate where Al Rawi and Deyalsingh stood on their feet several time quoting standing orders and she just sided with them most of the time. Then the Opposition does the same and is “thrown under the bus”.

A critical assessment of the House Speaker seems to indicate that she is quite possibly “bi-polar”, or is suffering from a “narcissist persona”.
Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression).
Narcissistic behaviour (1) narcissist are unlikely to feel bad about any of their own actions that may have caused upset to other people. Instead, they will continue as normal as though nothing has happened. (2) They expect you to agree with them all the time, and they don’t like any suggestion of disagreement. (3)
The narcissist will often feel as though they are the most important person in the room (no Bridgette you are not),

A mental health assessment needs to be done on this speaker. Newman George must come clean on his wife behaviour and get her the help she needs.

    1. Lord, have mercy!

Mamoo…Mamoo…is accusing someone of being a narcissist! Wow!

If Dr. Rowley were a dictator, how would that differentiate him and the PNM from indian politics (UNC/COP)?

      1. Inconvenient I would beat up on Dr. Rowley but it would be a waste of time. Liar comes to mind. And we leave it there…
