White Brutality Against Black and Brown People

By Dr Selwyn R. Cudjoe
June 07, 2021

“Get the niggers,” was their slogan, / “Kill them, burn them, set the pace. / Let them know that we are white men, / Teach them how to keep their place.”

—A. J. Smitherman, “The Tulsa Race Riot and Massacre” (1922)

Dr. Selwyn R. CudjoeI had just left Harvard University as an assistant professor and was doing “Time to Talk,” a series of interviews for T&T Television. In 1982 I interviewed Sam Nujomo, the founding father of Namibia, where he had addressed the UN Decolonization Committee about his country’s independence. We talked about Namibia’s struggle for independence and the stain German genocide had left upon the consciousness of his people.

Between 1904 and 1908 German soldiers killed more than 60,000 indigenous Herero and Nama ethnic people when they rose up against German colonialism. The United Nations considered this massacre “the first genocide of the 20th century” (Financial Times, May 29). I left my meeting with Nujomo with a heavy heart; that grievous conversation remained on my mind.

Forty years later Germany officially recognized its slaughter of Namibians and agreed to pay 1 British billion pounds in recompense although it was afraid to call it reparations. While the German government acknowledged its “moral responsibility” for the genocide, it did not offer an official apology allowing it to evade further compensation claims. Heiko Maas, Germany’s foreign minister, emphasized: “Legal claims to compensation cannot be derived from this” (FT, May 29, 2021).

On May 28th the remains of 215 indigenous children were found at the site of a former residential school for indigenous children at the Kamploops Indian Residential School in British Columbia, Canada. It is believed that these murders were committed by the teachers and guardians of these children, a product of Canada’s policy of cultural genocide. From the middle of the 19th century until the 1970s more than 150,000 First Nation peoples (Indians, Inuit and Metis) were forced to attend state-funded Christian schools as part of a program to assimilate them into Canada’s society.

These students “were forced to convert to Christianity and not allowed to speak their native languages. Many were beaten and verbally abused, and up to 6,000 are said to have died….Many students recall being beaten for speaking their native language; they also lost touch with their parents and customs” (CBS News, May 30, 2021).

In 2006, the Canadian government agreed to pay $1.86 billion dollars (US) for the sexual and physical abuse of these children or what they called “an overall holistic and comprehensive response to the Indian residential school legacy.” By March 2016, the government had paid out $1,622,422 to 79,309 former students. By December 2018, it had paid out an additional 3.174 billion dollars for the damages it caused through the suppression of their Native languages and cultures.

On Monday, the world turned its attention to the Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the United States, where in 1921 a white mob plundered the town for two days (May 31 and June 1). Greenwood was a prosperous Black town that had earned the name “Black Wall Street.” White people became jealous and couldn’t stand to see Black businesses thriving.

When they had finished their destruction, they had burned 1,100 houses and businesses to the ground, left 10,000 people homeless, killed 300 Blacks and dumped many of them into mass graves. The white government even used air planes to drop firebombs on the Black townspeople in what George Yancy called “genocidal, state-sanctioned racist violence” (Truthout, June 3).

A. J. Smitherman, editor of the Tulsa Star, captured this violence in his poem “The Tulsa Race Riot and Massacre.” He wrote: “At the signal from the whistle / Aeroplanes were seen to fly, / Dropping bombs and high explosives, / Hell was falling from the sky. / On all sides the mob had gathered / Talking in excited tones / With machine guns, ready, mounted, Trained upon a thousand homes.” None of the white rioters was ever punished.

Just as the Express published accounts of the genocide of Indian children in Canada and the atrocities against Black people in Tulsa last Sunday, the Mirror, a Trinidad newspaper, published an account of the genocide of Black people that took place in the Belgian Congo at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries.

Between 1885 and 1910, Belgium killed or worked to death over 10 million Congolese people, about half of the native population. Louis Goffin, the Belgian author of Le Chemin de Fer du Congo (1907) wrote:

“Out of two thousand negroes, employed on the construction in 1892, 150 a month died from illness….All along the track one would see corpses of negroes dead of smallpox, dysentery, beriberi. At times in the morning we would see before the door of our cabin the corpse of some negro dead during the night, placed there by his exasperated comrades as a protest” (quoted in The Mirror, January 28, 1908).

These conditions cause panic among the West African workers. Unable to recruit Africans the Belgian company imported Black West Indians and Chinese from Macao to work on the railway. However, “They fared no better than the first lot of 2,000 men who had come from West Africa. Still we pegged away at the gradual improvement of the conditions of life for black men and white in this terrible Cataract region” (Goffin).

White nations in Europe and America have always brutalized and terrorized brown and Black people in the world. These events, whether we like it or not, shape how we see and are seen by others. It’s important that we pay a close examination of what’s taking place in Namibia, British Columbia, and Tulsa today. It matters to us.

  1. My ancestors blood sweat and tears for 5 generations hallowed the soil of Trinidad. They worked on the sugar plantation for pittance. Meanwhile the British got wealthy from their poverty.

As a great great grandson from Uttar Pradesh I am owed at least a million British pounds in reparation money. The Queen presided over my ancestral wealth. Their toil was nothing more than slavery from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. 7 days per week.

The history of colonialism and conquest is a very sad one. The article speaks for itself. In India the West Bengal famine saw over 5 millions dead. “Rice stocks continued to leave India even as London was denying urgent requests from India’s viceroy for more than 1m tonnes of emergency wheat supplies in 1942-43. Churchill has been quoted as blaming the famine on the fact Indians were “breeding like rabbits”, and asking how, if the shortages were so bad, Mahatma Gandhi was still alive.” Further the British support for Jinah gave birth to Pakistan, a sworn enemy of india.

    1. “Their toil was nothing more than slavery from 5 a.m. To 9 p.m. ” 7 days per week.” -Mamoo LIES!

The Indentureship system’s work hours in Trinidad, was 9 hrs! And a 5 day work week! Just say you want a million pounds from the queen, no need tofabricate grievances for it. Truth is mamoo, as per usual with his community, is ‘covertly’ mocking and downplaying the historical call by descendents of the enslaved africans for their just due from their enslavement, UNPAID labour (not meagre wages), destuction of families by selling members, dehumanization via e.g. africans, unlike indians, were LEGALLY sub-human, horrific torture, enforced illiteracy under threat of torture, and much more. THAT is what reparations has always been about, an inter-generational, african social justice movement, that some racist indians like mamoo are trying to denigrate and culturally appropriate. Indians that try pseudo-scientifically, to compare the portugese, irish, chinese and finally indian period of indentureship, to the african experience of sub-human enslavement, are extremely devious, anti-african racists! Why compare indian indentureship (africans were around), to the african’s enslavement (indians were still in india)? Firstly, the logic and thinking of the race/varna/caste-minded must be understood.Karmic theory in the “hindu” context, breeds apathy and contempt, for those born in lower/inferior varna/race/caste or do not have caste/humanity (untouchable, african), and therefore, do not deserve empathy, and the mere notion of these “low-borns”, agitating for justice and empathy, evokes a feeling of injustice against Dharma! Dharma, is essentially your ascribed duty/job/status/wealth/poverty/suffering etc. at birth, based on varna/race/skin colour/caste, by “gods”, and it is believed to be pre-determined by breaking/following the “hindu” legal code of conduct/morality, manusmirti, in the first place, in your previous life. Therefore, africans suffer because they have black skin and african features, and it is because they are inherently evil from past lifetimes.THAT, is the minset africans unknowingly deal with every day in all spheres of life in Trinidad, guyana, suriname, fiji, mauritius etc. Oh, and by the way, before the political reality of needing african votes set in during the 70’s, indians like F.E.M. Hosein (arima mayor), publicly admitted to indians in Trinidad following “the caste system”, and gave documented speeches about the african’s position beneath the caste sytem of “hinduism” (sub-human), so a former indian trinidadian mayor publicly admitted that indias are spiritualky and ideologically racist against africans, embarrassing and exposing mamoo’s LIES!

Bernard Yawching’s recently realeased book supposedly covers the infamous speech of the racist mayor, as does Dr. Tony Martin’s “African & Indian consciousness “.

    2. Let me say this one more time.

Most wealth is created by new knowledge (about how to find untapped minerals or energy resources like oil and gas), or by the invention of new production technologies, which often involves the creation of machines that can perform work faster than before. Think about construction cranes, excavation equipment, computers, etc.

Britain became wealthy from its own Industrial Revolution, not from India or Indians. You are not owed any reparations. Your ancestors suffered because life was tough and cruel back then. Indentured workers were paid what they were worth in the labour markets of that time, which was not much because manual labour is not very productive without the help of modern machinery.

The British Empire was such a costly project that the British were happy to unload their colonial possessions three quarters of a century ago. The burden was just too great. They have provided their ex-colonies hundreds of billions of pounds in financial gifts since then. Trinidadians now owe the British, not the other way around. Those miserable sugar plantations never helped more than a tiny number of Brits anyway.

Please try to overcome your misapprehensions of the past. You have been deceived and misled by anti-colonial politicians, Left-wing activists, and even historians blinded by nationalism.

      1. I’m now wondering if chad chen’s last name is besson? He mixes truth with lies. Yes, indian labourers were paid manual labour wages, and yes, britain owes indentured indians, chinese, portugese and irish nothing. However, are you really denying the wealth britain stole by taking charge of india and it’s resources? Then why the **** did they go over there in the first damn place, if not for the resources? You are so far gone into your own dearier, your not even making plausible lies or sense for that matter. The facts are the india was well known for its spices and fabrics to name a few, and that was how the portugese ended up there. What is also true is that british merchsnts, had already been successful in india, had good relations and had indian wives. The worship of europeans as gods is the open secret fascination with india over centuries and invasion was unnecessary as the brahmin and uppercastes willingly prostituted the masses of shudras and untouchables to exploitation by the future colonists, as long as they benefitted. The portugese and british eventually wanted the “whole hog “, and so began india’s umpteenth colonialization by foreigners who they adored because of their whiteness.

      2. Hey Cady boy, you came on the blog posing like if you were some top of the line academic, talking about “there is a enormous scholarly literature” that you are making use of, in fact that scholarly literature seems like Fox news talking points, real BS. You are just an ordinary garden variety racist simpleton. Pathetic.

      3. “Britain became wealthy from its own Industrial Revolution, not from India or Indians. You are not owed any reparations. Your ancestors suffered because life was tough and cruel back then. Indentured workers were paid what they were worth in the labour markets of that time, which was not much because manual labour is not very productive without the help of modern machinery.”—-Chad
Obviously Chad you are here to make mischief. It is expected from the likes of you. Here from an Indian perspective. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7CW7S0zxv4 As for me not owed repatriation money it is the typical response of the illiterate who does not understand indentureship and how the labour from my ancestors were forcefully extracted.

        1. 🙂

Mamoo of all people, accusing chad chen of being on this blog to make mischief, and me of illiteracy. Does mamoo know the difference between india as a country claiming reparations a d descendents of former free, paid 5 year contract workers? Does anyone see the blatant hypocrisy of mamoo not months ago criticizing my postage of links as “cut and paste”, which now childishly tries to mimic with weak references? As i’ve shown, mamoo has no integrity , and is a malicious troll. Hindutva creates a victimhood aura around the victimizers, and attacks historical fact and truth as an enemy. Indentureship was not glamorous, but it was a far superior upgrade socially, economically and politically for indians? They know this. The african experience anything like indentureship and those imply even that it was similar are either ignorant or liars. Hindutva is about aggressively and religiously lying about history and reality, by FABRICATING GRIEVANCES in order to achieve “hindu” supremacy. In recent decades, the hindutva UNC and their supporters, tell increasingly fantastic lies about the indian experience in trinidad, in an attempt to downplay the african experience of enslavement, their struggle to end it, and how indians enjoyed a privileged position over them from immediately after their contracts ended in 1850,1855,1860 etc until now. Indentureship was not enslavement! The Indentureship period for the indian community was not 1845-1917 as some try to sneakily imply, it was 5 years! Paid Labour! Free Land! African enslavement was inter-generational, with the status of cattle. Children sold, illiteracy enforced…africans weren’t kicked, they were tortured, mutilated whippings, lynched, raped at will and psychologically, culturally and religiously BROKEN! No such things happened, or COULD HAVE occured during indentureship because the colonists were bound by anti-slavery laws and political pressure that AFRICANS fought for! In fact, africans deserve seoarate reparations for the economic abuse during indian migration and indentureship. Africans were TAXED specifically to pay for each indian immigrants passage to their former lands, which they were forced to vacate after squatter laws were passed to prevent africans from inhabiting the lands they were enslaved on and toiled ti death for. Lying about indentureship is a direct attack on the african experience.

          Apology for Slavery and Reparations:
          https://www.trinidadandtobagonews.com/blog/?p=6971

        2. Typically, when a dishonest employee steals from his employer, he will rationalize (excuse) his own misconduct by telling himself that the employer is a cheat who should be paying him more money. Because he is a hard worker and deserves it.

Such is the psychology of the ill-bred criminal. It is also your psychology, and the psychology of many Trinidadians. You envy the relative wealth of the British and the North Americans — wealth you cannot create on your own because you are not as smart, not as knowledgeable, and not as disciplined as they are, And like a fantasist, you conjure up imaginary arguments that give you the right to take their wealth from them. “Reparations” for “social justice”.

          1. But Chaddy boy, I don’t know if you see it, but your argument is more effective against your own position, “when a dishonest employee steals from his employer, he will rationalize (excuse) his own misconduct by telling himself that the employer is a cheat who should be paying him more money.” Because when a criminal robs, enslaves, takes away land, beats and tortures his labourers (slaves), then he will rationalize (excuse for those who don’t know what rationalize means) his criminal conduct by telling himself the human being that he has enslaved, tortured and made to work for free, is a lazy, criminal type who needs this treatment. And he will have to lie, rewrite history, suppress the truth and generally act like a real …. Also he, because of his fear of what he has done, the sans humanite, he will feel he has to keep down this person for ever in order to feel secure. But Chaddy boy, the more you try to keep it down, the brighter the truth will come to light.

        3. LIES!
There is no cohesive, monolithic “indian” opinion about british colonialism. The facts are and the truth is, your race/varna/caste in india, determines your lived reality. Before British colonization of india, the concept of egalitarianism did not exist outside of certain religious groups e.g. Islam, buddhism, etc However, those institutions had already been infiltrated by the “hindu” racial hierarchical ideology, and it, “caste system” was already the common currency in india…i.e. anti-black, racist oppression. It was british rule that banned the “hindu” practice of “Sati” (Widow Cremation…alive). Untouchables first saw hope and upward mobility under british influence. Truth and in fact, india’as constitution was drafted by an untouchable, B.R. Ambedkar, because the outgoing british dictated that the untouchables have a voice….”hindus” and gandhi didn’t like that!

          1. This is not an india site, nor is it a Hindu site. You keep Inconvenient copy and pasting and saying the same thing over and over.. You, Burke, Yawning, Keane are obsessed about Hindus and Hinduism. My suggestion to you move to Kolkata…. stop wasting time here. You mental capacity appears to be stuck…in a time warp. Yes we have read and know all about the great Gupta Empire, the Maharaja Kingdoms, the Mogul empire and the famous Taj Mahal.

  2. Thanks Professor.. But, charity begins at HOME.. let’s not forget the history of where that oil refinery sits idle in Point a Pierre today (while gas prices is skyrocketing) …

“In 1822, according to Ottley, a slave rebellion broke out on the Plein Palais Estate (Pointe-A-Pierre). The enslaved rebelled against the harsh working conditions, under the pretence of demanding three days holidays in the week. Three of the leaders were beheaded with an axe in Woodford Square. Their heads were exposed in the Square, and their bodies hung in chains on the various estates where the societies existed. It took four years to crush the remnants of the rebellion. “

  3. More irresponsible rabble-rousing from Cudjoe, who spends most of his time stoking racial resentment with the same twenty or thirty stories of exploitation and mass murder that occurred in previous centuries.

It is sad that so many black and Indigenous people cannot compete successfully in the modern world — cannot learn or keep up with the new information technologies and engineering sciences, much less the physical sciences like physics or chemistry. And so to support themselves these people and their allies are reduced to taking advantage of the “progressive” White Man’s guilt, making claim after claim for “reparations,” often by wildly exaggerating the injustices of the past.

Consider Cudjoe’s misleading and inaccurate account of the discovery in Canada of a mass grave at a Kamloops, BC residential school for Native children. It is not known how or why the children died. Their remains have not yet been examined. They could have succumbed to tuberculosis or other diseases that were prevalent at the time. But Cudjoe wants you to believe they were “murdered,” and by their teachers and guardians to boot. Sorry, but there is no credible evidence of this.

Cudjoe condemns Canada for “cultural genocide” against its Indigenous people. But how could Canada afford not to assimilate its tribal communities to Western civilization. Many households in these communities want to live traditional lifestyles of casual hunting and fishing, paying little or no taxes, yet they noisily demand that the government provide them with the same modern housing, modern schools, modern hospitals, modern roads, and modern water and electricity services enjoyed by White Canadians. In other words, they give themselves the “right” to be a perpetual burden on others.

We need better thought leaders than Cudjoe.

    1. The world needs better human beings than Chad Chen. What type of clown criticizes social justice, by calling it “rabble rousing”?

  4. One of the great ironies of our time is how the rest of the world treat and malign us without regard to our history. White Europe gained its opulence and “culture” on the murderous history of black and brown people. Many would like us to ‘forget’ about the ostensibly recent past and get in line with what they regard as a reformed present. We are mistaken when we ‘forgive’ the white man and ‘forget’ our past. Just recently we had such a critic in the person of Chadchen, who just about condemned any and everything about black people, decrying our cognitive abilities and elevating the white psyche as something to behold. Judging from the professor’s narrative can we really trust the white man to be morally and spiritually human? The white man’s cruelty is no less destructive today than what history has taught us. Our mistake would be to ‘forget’ and ‘forgive’ with total abandon, while the white man remains calculating and un-repentive for his history of cruelty towards those that do not look like him. For us, we should continue to keep history alive in our hearts and minds while keeping our eyes open on how we develop our lands.

  5. I am a firm believer in repatriation money especially for me and my family. The root of exploitation and suffering is inexcusable. Especially for my ancestors who were subject to in humane and cruel treatment living in barracoons with little or no food to survive. They had to sleep on the cold floor and if ill still had to rise with the sun and hit the sugar and rice plantations. Those barracoons leaked and rain soak them during the changing seasons.

Such injustice is unfathomable, the overseer with his tall boots would kick them to make them work faster. Their punishment was severe and unnecessary. To say it wasn’t slave labour is wrong. The overseers extracted the maximum efforts from my ancestors. The pain, the tears, the hungry bellies, the suffering was horrible. My great grandmother suffered terribly with lice. As I am sure the women also. Unhygienic conditions.

Anyways I know the British crown owes me a minimum of a million pounds for labour extracted from my forefathers.

    1. Lies!
If you truly want to honour your great grandmother mamoo, be honest about why she ran away to trinidad, and WHERE her culture of poor hygiene and the resulting lice came from. Hint: it wasn’t from indentureship! The untouchables who escaped india from the “hindu” “caste system”, lived for thousands of years under oporession that ENFORCED illiteracy, powerlessness and terrible hygiene. they brought that poor hygiene with them to the colonies. Facts!

      1. Obviously you eat, sleep and dream the caste system and Hinduism. You are resident nutcase on this site. I have seen it happen to people with a little knowledge. They suddenly become “expert” as Colm Imbert would say. All you posting is on India and the caste system. You are sick go get help.

Talk about your beliefs rather than spreading hate on what you 3 pound brains don’t understand. Pakistan is 95 % Muslim so their way of dealing with the caste system is to steal the young Hindu and Christian girls.

      2. Why are you a Hindu fanatic inconvenient? That’s all you seem to be promoting on this board when the topic is about the colonial impact on Natives and other groups of people. As the dunce you are it seems difficult for you to understand the rudimentary basis of this conversation. The basic understanding of what the topic is you seems to deviate and defecate all over this board. Others have simply not posted or even try to engage their minds on the destruction brought about by the colonialist because of sh*td*ggers like you.

Since you came on this board as a Hindu expert it seems the religious nut that you are is mind boggling. Go and learn how to engage your mind on the topic at hand. But I suspect you are so dumb you would think I am praising you. You lil sh*thead. Hahaha bet you respond to this.

        1. All that anger and temper tantrum because you can no longer control the narrative with disinformation. What truly bothers you, is that i see through you and address your b.s. directly, and at it’s root.Every post you have ever made on this blog, has been nakedly rooted in tribalism based on your religion, culture, race and UNC, which channels all of those. You and others of your mindset, are accustomed to getting away with the abuse of the general african public, without anyone directly addressing exactly what your issue is and it gave you a sense of comfort. No more! That time has passed!

          1. You are sick mentally. You need help. Every post you made is about Hindu, Indians caste system. You are stuck in the place where the Sun don’t shine. That is all you here for you waste time on this planet.

Get a grip on yourself. Try thinking instead of posting and copying other people ideas. This is not suppose to be a Brahmin or Hindu site but that is all you have. Nothing more stay away from the blog.

        2. Mamoo

I’m not trying to offend you, unlike Truth.
I just believe you’re not thinking clearly and objectively about historical events.

          1. Not offended Chad, you say what you think, I will say what I think and we will both get along fine. Creates better understanding….

        3. ….and over and over and over! Why am i obsessed with Brahmanism (“hinduism”)? Why are you so obsessed with lies, racism and malicious propaganda? Two past prime ministers of T&T are “hindus” ! The UNC andCOP, is an overtly “hindu” party, that sat maharaj was also a moral and spiritual leader of. Why shouldn’t the entire nation region, and diaspora, know more about the belief system of those who want to rule over them? Strange…one would think an SDMS member like mamoo would want more immersion in knowlege about his beliefs, or is it that he wants to control what certain people can know and not know about his beliefs?. How can an electorate elect a leader without a fundamental understanding their beliefs and motivations?Sat Maharaj, the former leader of mamoo’s group, was the admitted spiritual and moral leader of kamla and the UNC for 5 years, and 3 months! When former PM patrick manning, had julianna pena as his adviser, that in itself was scandalized, but every citizen knew exactly what the moral compass of christianity is.However, many were actuality shocked at the vile, brazen, anti-black, anti-african racism during the 1995-2001, and the 2010-2015 UNC/COP/PP term in office, and the overt racial anagonism post 2015 & 2020 electoral defeat of the UNC. Africans should be obsessed with understanding the mindset of those whom they give power to. Unlike mamoo, i’ve actually read the articles, books and videos that i post, and explain their obvious relevance to everyday life. Mamoo on the other hand…

This is a one-stop lecture that every african trinidadian and caribbean should see, to have a firm grasp of the thinking, the mind state and ideology that they unknowingly face daily.

        4. Mamoo, I too am not trying to offend you, but Inconvenient is knocking the crap out of you. You are on the ropes man, you are barely holding on. You are like road runner who just realized he’s over the cliff, a manatee about to flop over. You are deteriorating man. Inconvenient rapid intellectual blows seemed to have scrambled your brains. You need a rest man. You are melting down. Here is some genuine advice – what Caddy is saying is true, “you’re not thinking clearly and objectively about historical events.” Of course Caddy doesn’t do that either but he has a good con game going on there. Mamoo, you need to do some more research on the topic of caste. Maybe not everything Inconvenient says is true, you can’t rebut by just cussing, you need to do some reading. Talk to Inconvenient, he may be able to advise you on some appropriate books to read.

          1. Hi Birdie,
Yes he is so knowledgeable that he even fool you…..hahaha. He is Sudra/ untouchable and an angry one at that. To me no bother those things don’t apply to me. All his postings is about the superiority of the Indian race over the African race because of the caste system. He has made victims of you and Yoruba only because of the tribal cords. By the way if I followed that nonsense I would be a Sudra to, something I have never believed.

  6. As I read the various posts on this blog, there is some truth in all your comments. Chad Chen on the need for all people to educate themselves in order to be innovative, industrious and wealth producing instead of bitching and complaining about past injustices, Inconvenient about the poor treatment of the Dalits in India, and mamoo about the hardships of the East Indian indentured workers.

However let us remember that the past is dead and we need to live in the present and make strategic decisions now for us to be successful in the future. Inconvenient should note that most of the African slaves were enslaved by fellow Africans in tribal wars and sold on the coast to White Slave traders. Trade in African slaves have been going on since the time of the Pharaoh’s. From the 10th to the 15th Century, so many slaves were taken from India by Arab and Central Asian invaders that Ibn Battua in his book stated that even the beggars in Bukhara and Samarkand had Indian slaves. No race has been exempt from slavery. The Romans routinely enslaved the various tribes and nations they conquered. The fact is none of us are slaves, were slaves and really have no idea what it is to be enslaved.

So let move on from this victimhood charade. I am all in favour of respecting each other and working together for the prosperity of ourselves, our families and our countrymen. Goddamit we only have one life, and one little piece of God’s Little Acre called Trinidad. Let us enjoy what we have and be happy.

Times are tough for all of us and no race can escape effects of this global pandemic. We have more to gain by cooperating than by fighting with each other.

    1. “I am all in favour of respecting each other and working together for the prosperity of ourselves, our families and our countrymen.”
Mitra, while I commend you for that statement (and I believe that there is some degree of honesty in it), there is absolutely nothing in place today, that would lead us towards that wish.

Each group of people have their own experiences and unlike the animal species, we were created with a large memory pool that also contains the ability to consult with our spiritual awakening.
It is this memory and spiritual awareness, that keep us from going backwards but expecting a better future. There is an adage that says “you cant know where you are going if you don’,t know where you came from”. It is this adage that we always have to be mindful of in our daily transactions, less we are blindfully moving with no sense of what direction we should go. All of the people you quoted have different experiences and this forum provide the service of allowing us to present it. Where we fail is in not believing or understanding those realities and feel that “our” solutions are best for all. That is the reality we face in these arguments. You made an excellent point when you said that slavery was not just an African problem. The European were enslaved by Europeans at one point in time. So was the Arabs and Asians of other Arabs and Asians. As late as world war two, the Jews of Europe were killed and incacerated by the millions by the Nazis. However, the African experience were not only recent, but brutal, criminal, inhumane, destructive, mind altering,
psychologically damaging, infuriating, murderous, locality changing and insanely negating to the Africans that your wish may not be achievable. Our memory and spirit WILL NOT allow us to forgive and forget the destructive nature of the
European’s will to negate our very existence.

Can there be a point of commonality? SURE!!!! But for there to be a point of interest we MUST NOT DENY THE PAST. Accept it,
have meaningful discussions on amalgamation and commonality
and provide means of assurance towards each other’s existence.

    2. LIES & DEFLECTIONS !
Arabs (Eurasian/Mulattos), enslaved and colonized african nations 800+ years before the MODERN european nations began 500+ years ago. The devious implication that indigenous africans enslaved each other (european context), independent of external conquest, subjugation and influence is the heart of that lie. Also of critical importance is that the word ‘slavery’, as a universal, interchangeable, monolithic experience is false, and deceptive. Africans who captured other africans, was in the context of warring nations capturing enemies. Those africans didn’t de-humanize other humans, enforce illiteracy, or any of the horrors associated with ‘slavery’ in the trans-atlantic period. The arabs, as horrific as they were, paled in comparison to the plantation in the americas. However, isn’t strange that mitra conveniently omits the history of INDIAN ENSLAVEMENT OF AFRICANS before their own colonization?Or even more damning is that in reality india has the longest history on planet earth of enslaving african people and subjugating them under the guise of religion… untouchables ARE africans!!Neither the arabs, nor the european trans-atlantic enslavement of africans are anywhere close to the “hindu” “caste system”/apartheid; the persecution and enslavement of “untouchability! India’s untouchables, like mamoo and mitra’s foreparents, who fled through indentureship, are oppressed because they are the most genetically close to their african ancestors who began india’s civilization. The dravidians, were BLACK african descendents, who were invaded and conquered by ancient europeans. The rig veda details of how the “aryans” came upon the black,Mohenjodaro and harappan civilization, were in awe of it’s architecture, but found their black skin and facial features OFFENSIVE. The invasion was not immediate, but first the “aryans”, initiated trade and gained knowledge of the mohenjodaro & harappan society through deception, and eventually usurped power through inter-generational wars. This is why hindutva-ites and their minion’s try to dispute”invasion”, because invasion implies, but is not limited to immediate success. The U.S. , and the americas are a perfect example of how invasion and conquest works, mere hundreds of years later. It is impossible, without the study of history, to understand that native americans, were the original inhabitants of america, had their own distinct civilization, and were quite phenotypically different to how they look today. However, what does african enlavement and collaborators in africa 1,300+ years ago have anything to do with reparations in the americas and caribbean, for the debt of centuries of inter-generational, inhuman incarceration, torture, dehumanization and UNPAID LABOUR that built the new, shiny world in 2021? Nothing, but gaslighting and deflection.

  7. Incoconvenient Truth is an example of the “bad” citizen. Endlessly resentful. Always complaining. Always creating badwill and social poison. Sowing the seeds of distrust in an already polarized society. Accusing other Trinidadians of hatred, but blind to his own hatreds. Envious of the wealth and accomplishment of the British and the North Americans. Always denouncing them for imaginary sins and always demanding their money, of course. A scornful, cynical and self-destructive mendicant.

We need a different type of citizen to succeed as a nation. We need cheerful, friendly people who understand how to build and maintain a healthy caring society. We need people who can be generous and hospitable even to total strangers. People who are energetic and hard-working, but will not hesitate to help others in need. Our churches, schools and neighbourhood institutions are not producing enough of these kinds of people, even as our politicians divide us into antagonistic tribes. Very sad.

    1. Chad Chen is an example of a intellectually dishonest, dangerous, and malicious “citizen”. As a proud exponent of scientific racism and shameless denial of history, chad postures atop his own ego mound , blurting out pseudo-intellectual baubble, with spell-check. ” Hate”, just like “racism” are terms that are political footballs for racists and their gaslighting. The only thing i’ve displayed what could be interpreted as “hate” for, is racism, oppression, bullying the weak and racists…i guess i can see why the likes of chad chen would feel ‘the hate’.

  8. Quoting from Dr. Cudjoe’s article, where he quotes:

“Get the niggers,” was their slogan, / “Kill them, burn them, set the pace. / Let them know that we are white men, / Teach them how to keep their place.”
—A. J. Smitherman, “The Tulsa Race Riot and Massacre” (1922)

This is an interesting epigraph chosen by Cudjoe for an article entitled “White brutality against black and brown people”.

In his conclusion to the article Cudjoe writes: “White nations in Europe and America have always brutalized and terrorized brown and Black people in the world.”

This is an erroneous conclusion, too simple by far for one who is a historian, as Cudjoe is. The title “historian” seems apt. Cudjoe has done original historiography after all, — his work on the Trinidad slave-master Burnley refers. He is certainly more learned than most about the history of the Negro in the Americas and in the world. He is a littérateur too besides, well able to wax literary on the subject. I’ve seem him somewhere on YouTube talking about Shakespeare’s The Tempest Caliban character as being somehow a figure for the Negro slave. So he is well learned, well studied on the subject. If anyone should know the subject of Negro oppression, it ought to be he. But like so many historians, he has swallowed the LIES of category that form the unexamined premises of Western historiography. The LIES at issue here are the terms “white”, “Black”, and “brown” as purporting to be meaningful descriptors of people groups talked about as part of Western historiography.

We the Negro have to be more discerning than that. Yes. at some emotional level, we want to admit the truth of the title. Are we not “black” people? Have we not suffered under the lash of “white” people — certainly they call themselves “white” — for centuries. Yes and yes. BUT!!… nevertheless… it is not the case that we are “black” — worse yet, “Black”. Neither is it the case that they are “white” in any deep ethnological sense. And as to the category “brown”, we have there a nonsense of category that lumps innocent in with guilty, foe in with friend, and can refer to a kaleidoscope of miscegenation possibilities, mostly so different as to be meaningless for any ethnoraphic purpose.

Where am I going with this? In the historiography of oppression, the skin color basis of ethnographic classification collapses irretrievably at the very first encounter with the facts of history. The historical truths at issue become inconvenient for the color classification scheme right from Ready-Set.

The “black” sons of Jacob (IYECHOB) sold their “black” brother, Joseph (IYESEPH), into slavery to the “black” people of Egypt (Mizraim). We the Negro — sons of IYECHOB, and still “black” — are still paying for that original sin involving IYESEPH and Mizraim (Egypt). Egypt is known in Scripture as the “house of bondage”. And the name, Mizraim, seems to be the etymological root for the English words, “miserable”, “misery”, and the like. The Negro fell into miserable condition these past four hundred years, not this time at the hand of “black” Mizraim, but rather this time at the hand of “white” Esau (ISASHA). The name ISASHA in the original Hebrew adverts to paleness of skin (“SA” references paleness like unto the moon (SA)) and to hairiness (“SHA” references the velcro-like grabbing (SHA) quality of much hair). Esau was Jacob’s twin. Fast forward a few hundred years and we see the coming of “white power” on the earth with the coming of the Greeks, with Esau mixed in with them. They are a pale-skinned, hairy people, as Esau’s name pre-figured.

But just as “black” Pharaoh enslaved “black” Jacob, “white” Esau enslaved other “white” people. The very word “slave” has etymological root in the name of the “white” “Slavic” people of Europe. So, in a true historiography, it must be acknowledged that not only have “black” people enslaved other “black” people, but also that “white” people also have enslaved other “white” people. Also, the Arabs, today a “brown” people, although descended from coal-black Ishmael — Jacob’s uncle, and son of Abraham through the Egyptian handmaid, Hagar — went about enslaving people of all colors. They enslaved “black” Egyptians, “black” Israelite Negro/Bantu peoples, but also as well “white” Circassian slaves. Etc.

The point is rather obvious. Skin color as such has nothing of explanatory value that does not collapse under scrutiny, when looking at who has been brutal to whom, who has enslaved whom, over the long march of history.

I do not make this point to excuse brutal “whites” for the Tulsa race massacre.

I make this point to expose and illuminate other guilty parties who happen not to be “white”. Here in T&T the matter is especially relevant, for the “brown” indo here in this land have been waging a decades-long war against the “black” Negro. They have sought with malice aforethought to oppress the Negro who came to this land before they did, and with whom they’re committed under the Constitution to share space on the basis of “here ev’ry creed and race…”.

I do not and would not make such a charge lightly or vaguely or with muffled whisper. It is not a scurrilous hit-and-run calumny motivated by hate or ill-will. It is specific. It is evidence-based. The evidence is actual events unfolding for all to see, along with a smoking-gun document, the “Indian Policy”. Here are excerpts:

Item 1: “Make the country ungovernable”. Evidences: actionable sabotage of the Brian Lara stadium, of inter-island ferries, of relentless undermining of Gov’t in every sphere of public life, of a relentlessly hostile news-media.

Item 2: “… we must not allow ourselves to be ruled by monkeys. Give them [no] support. Our people must undermined (sic) this nigga (sic) government from within the ministries and work assiduously in collecting and disseminating information to our personnels (sic)…” Evidences: a minister makes a deposit in a state-owned bank, it is headline news next day. A Venezuelan jet lands during lockdown, the passenger manifest is in the paper next day, giving information that it is quite illegal for ministry personnel to make public. Etc.

Item 3: “Hire niggas (sic) only if you have to, make them your slaves and keep them at the lowest level of your payroll, economic power is ours”. Evidences: let each consider where Negro people stand when working for indo businesses, or even state-owned businesses (e.g. “Petro-Singh”, FCB) when indos acquire responsibility for hiring.

Item 4: “Teach our people how to tip the scales…” Evidences: See the YouTube video that Inconvenient Truth has shared with us where one indo admits as much (context automotive parts business) while expressing disgust/disagreement with such practice).

Item 5: “Our doctors must look out for each other and the interns. Assist our interns in their [exams]. Remember exams are not important, but certification is. We must continue the practice of tubal ligation on niggas after the birth to their monkeys, and put little effort into neonatal care, keep them in the minority”. Evidences: Otherwise inexplicable botched Caesarean operation where the head of the unborn baby was sliced open. The word “continue” used here is smoking-gun evidence of racially-motivated malpractice. Qualified Negro candidates systematically denied admission to the UWI medical school. Prof Bartholomew spoke out.

Item 6: “Education is the key to success, so our teachers must focus their attention on our children and forget the rest. Get involved in correcting examination papers because you can make a difference there. Our SEA papers correcting groups are very strong and have been working quite well, we must keep this up in order to maintain top placement and scholarships. Remember to keep UWI under close watch.” Evidences: complete indo domination of SEA results, and of placements in prestige schools, to the point of statistical impossibility (trillion to one kinds of odds, moreover year into cumulative year) absent CHEATING.

Item #9: “Indians need to continue infiltrating (sic) the protective services…”.

Item #10: “We must take Tobago, buy their properties and make them renters, we know the value of land, and this investment will insure (sic) our political control of the island”.

Item #11: “we are superior to them and they must know it”.

This last item is especially instructive. How is the animus it reveals any different from that expressed in the epigraph chosen by Cudjoe to reveal (and condemn) the animus that drove the “white” men that committed the Tulsa massacre : “Let them know that we are white men, / Teach them how to keep their place”.

That same animus drives the indo in these parts in their attitude to the Negro. The animus has nothing at bottom to do with skin color. It is an animus that is Scripturally explained and prophesied. It is the enduring hatred of Esau for his twin brother Jacob, driven ultimately by envy. Jacob was given the birthright and the blessing, although he was the younger twin. Esau has resented that election ever since, even though he had sold his birthright to Jacob for a mess of pottage.

Ezekiel 35:5. “Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:
6 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: since thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee.”

The invariant of explanatory category that we seek is seedline, not skin color. A proper historiography will bear it out. The local indo-Aryan is a “brown” branch of the Esau family tree. The would-be Negro re-enslavers of Tulsa are a “white” branch of that same Esau family tree. There are “black” branches too of that same family tree, notably Bedouin Arabs, but even a tribe in Nigeria given away by their name, “Idoma” (for Esau is known also as Edom).

So enough of these useless skin color designations of identity! They are meaningless.

Cudjoe ought to know this. He is not unlearned and I doubt a fool. However he is tendentious of late, and tending in a direction wherein racial confusion and confounding of racial categories well serves to deflect from the would-be re-enslavers of brown hue that we the Negro live among.

The indo and their enablers would do well to reflect on what Scripture prophesies for their final end. They are being “prepared unto blood” as just quoted (Ezekiel 35:6). They realize not that they have a chance for redemption out of it:

Jeremiah 18:8. “If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.”

Regardless, Negro Jacob was enslaved and have suffered affliction for spiritual cause. The time we were condemned to serve is now up.

    Genesis 15:13-14. “And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.”

Contrary to what some determined and ill-motivated Edomites think, the problem of the Negro has never been any lack of “intelligence” (still less “IQ”, whatever that ultimately incoherent term may be taken to mean), rather the remorseless fulfillment of prophecy. Such prophecy, for good and ill, centers around the Negro, the Chosen seed of our father IYEHAWAH (Jehovah), and the ones ultimately that our Saviour, IYESHUAH (Jesus) came to save. As it is written, our time to rule is near upon us.

2 Esdras 6:9: “For Esau is the end of the world, and Jacob is the beginning of it that followeth.”

    Shalom.

Wisdom of Solomon 5:1-5. “Then shall the righteous man stand in great boldness before the face of such as have afflicted him, and made no account of his labours.
2 When they see it, they shall be troubled with terrible fear, and shall be amazed at the strangeness of his salvation, so far beyond all that they looked for.
3 And they repenting and groaning for anguish of spirit shall say within themselves, This was he, whom we had sometimes in derision, and a proverb of reproach:
4 We fools accounted his life madness, and his end to be without honour:
5 How is he numbered among the children of God, and his lot is among the saints!”

Nahum 1:9. “What do ye imagine against IYEHAWAH? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.”

  9. One of the historical myths so many Trinidadians have been taught by their nationalist leaders, and by their semi-literate schoolteachers, is that European nations, especially Great Britain and France, grew wealthy because of their overseas empires.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

While empires were a source of prestige, they cost much more to establish and maintain than they ever generated in financial or economic benefits.

At the dawn of the Imperial Age, Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands were the most technologically advanced and prosperous countries on earth. Spain and Portugal were the first to acquire large empires in the Third World. But their empires became so costly and burdensome, both countries went into long term economic and political decline. It took them hundreds of years — after eventually getting rid of their biggest colonies — for them to slowly recover from their disastrous imperial adventure.

The Netherlands, Great Britain and France suffered some of the same economic disasters from acquiring overseas colonies, but they were saved from ruin by their own internal, self-generated Industrial Revolution, which started in Britain and the Netherlands and quickly spread to France and Germany. Without the internal wealth created by the Industrial Revolution, Britain and France would have suffered the same terrible decline as Spain and Portugal.

It is a great falsehood for the colonial peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (or Asia for that matter) to claim that they helped enrich Europe. They did just the opposite. While a few hundred European families made money from their estates in the Third World, most European taxpayers had to pay the enormous cost of investing in colonial roads, railways, and other infrastructure, administering the empire, and supporting an army and navy that could defend imperial territory.

Undoubtedly, Europeans hoped and expected that their overseas territories would make them more prosperous. But it did not turn out that way, and it took a long time for them to recognize their mistake.

  10. I might add that the richest countries of Europe today — Scandinavia and Switzerland — were the countries that wisely avoided the terrible burden of acquiring empires in the Third World.

  11. Switzerland has been one of the largest offshore financial centers and tax havens in the world since the mid-20th century.
The Swiss Bankers Association (SBA) estimated in 2018 that Swiss banks held US$6.5 trillion in assets or 25% of all global cross-border assets.

Yes Chad why would they need “the terrible burden of acquiring empires in the Third World.” Sadam alone had $18 billion in that bank. So to every PNM Minister, all the Swiss gives you is a long number. Swiss bank along with the PNM bank and Cayman Islands have a lot of TnT money.

No need to enter these empires when they just give you the money Chad.

  12. Why do people not learn or understand basic economics?

The fact that a rich man has millions of dollars in a secret Swiss bank account or millions of dollars of jewelry in a Swiss safety deposit box does not increase the GNP of Switzerland. It is not counted as Swiss wealth. Only the completed banking services performed by Swiss bankers for a fee are counted in Swiss GNP, and Swiss banking fees are modest.

Of course, you haven’t mentioned how the Scandinavian countries, including little agricultural Denmark, became the richest corner of Europe — because their story contradicts your theory about colonialism enriching Europeans.

Tiny Portugal, arguably Europe’s most advanced country in 1600, fell off a cliff after acquiring and administering a vast empire that included all of Brazil and part of Uruguay, all of Angola, Mozambique and Portuguese Guinea. More slaves were traded into Brazil and used there than into North America or the Caribbean. Yet after hundreds of years of “profiting” from the biggest slave trade and the biggest slave system in the world, Portugal, a country of fewer than 3 million in 1822, when Brazil became independent, had itself fallen into relative poverty in Europe, and was even poorer than Spain, which was also dragged down by its empire in Latin America.

Your teachers lied to you, and you are lying to yourself.

    1. https://www.nytimes.com/1986/03/14/world/swiss-bank-found-with-800-million-in-marcos-s-name.html
The Swiss bank became complicit in taking corrupt money out of a nation by allowing this despot to hid the nation money there. In allowing that, people starved suffered and were deprived of a livelihood because of this big thief. What i was trying to say the money is not theirs it is stolen money. So to say it is just and ordinary transaction with a very small fee is to be an idiot without realizing it. The swiss bank was supporting corruption to the tune of 25% of the world economy.

      1. Mamoo,

You are MISUNDERSTANDING some of what you are reading.

Swiss banks DO NOT SUPPORT CORRUPTION IN 25% OF THE WORLD ECONOMY.

At Wikipedia, you must have read that Swiss banks have total worldwide assets of US$6.5 trillion, and “25% of cross-border deposits”. This is a murky reference (25% of what?). But the facts are that total assets of the global banking system exceed US$400 trillion, and Swiss banks account for less than 2% of global banking assets. REPEAT: Less than 2%.

In the Swiss economy itself, the largest, most important sectors are manufacturing (PRESCRIPTION DRUGS, MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, MACHINERY, CHEMICALS, WATCHES, FOOD PROCESSING) and tourism.

THE ENTIRE SWISS FINANCIAL SERVICES SECTOR — SERVING BOTH DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN BUSINESSES — ACCOUNTS FOR ONLY 5% OF SWISS EMPLOYMENT AND 10% OF ANNUAL SWISS GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT.

The Swiss do not depend heavily on banking for their national income. Thise are the facts. The bank accounts of foreign dictators and criminals do not explain the wealth of Switzerland

  13. I can bring a horse to water, but I cannot make it drink.

There are clearly many Trinidadians who need to believe, and choose to believe in the childish fantasy that your miserable, illiterate or semi-literate ancestors somehow made Europeans (and/or North Americans) rich.

You will deny the lessons of history if you have to. You will twist facts and arguments if you must. Your ideology comes first, and it distorts everything, but you like that because the world looks better to you when you distort everything to suit your needs.

You simply do not have the personal integrity — you are not high-minded enough — to face reality. I can only regard you with sorrow and pity.

  14. Er… the Swiss don’t own the Swiss banks. Just like the Americans don’t own the (private) Federal Reserve.

Chad’s postulations are naive. He displays some intellect, and evidently he is reasonably well schooled, –thanks to PNM/niggah education policy — but there is a callowness of spirit that reminds me of Dinesh D’Souza. Lucifer’s children are like that. They think they’re the “best and brightest”, so much so they’re blind even to the simplest correction. They certainly will not accept correction from those they perceive to be “monkeys”.

    Quoting from the “Indian Policy”:
Item 2: “… we must not allow ourselves to be ruled by monkeys…”

That is the animus of the indo we must contend with. It is a conscious rejection of the T&T Constitution and its precept of “here ev’ry creed and race finds an equal place…” though this was agreed to by their representatives at Marlborough House. Can a party to a contract still lay claim to the rights it provides while breaking the core obligations it imposes?

Even the arch-nincompoop on the Board exhibits the same hubris, despite being conspicuously lacking either in intellect or schooling.

    Amazing.

    Shalom.

Gen. Smedley Butler, USMC. “I spent 33 years and four
months in active military service and during that period I
spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big
Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a
racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico
and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in
1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the
National City Bank boys to collect revenues in.”

“The world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes.”
    ― Benjamin Disraeli

    1. Quoting from the “Indian Policy”:
Item 2: “… we must not allow ourselves to be ruled by monkeys…” Yoruba… This policy your obviously believe, you have been quoting this policy on this over and over on this board. The same with Inconvenient the master is Hinduism and Indian way of life. aka caste system. You two are like tape recorders playing the same thing over and over again.

  15. Perhaps the bright one would let us know how much the erstwhile colonies of Africa and elsewhere OWE to Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany and the other colonial powers for all that colonization COST them. Perhaps Namibia should be the one to PAY Germany for the Herero genocide.

Common sense is often lacking in those bright ones who are well schooled, but didn’t see value in honing ALL the mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual faculties with which the Creator has endowed us.

Here is the Creator’ word on the affliction of slavery and colonization:

    Genesis 15:13-14: “And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.”

The enslaver/colonizer will be judged. The enslaved/colonized will come out with great substance. In other words, “reparations” due will be paid. The calculation will not be according to the vain lights of modern value-twisted economic theory. In fact the greater part of the “reparations” will be paid in kind, not per se in treasure. Rather their rule will end. They will be brought down to the ground. And the meek will rise in their stead.

Zechariah 11:3. “There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is spoiled: a voice of the roaring of young lions…”

The scoffers will certainly scoff, as indeed is prophesied. But just as the prophecy of Negro enslavement/affliction was fulfilled, over the disbelief of our forefathers who heeded not the prophets sent to them, so too future prophecy also shall be fulfilled. Hear or forebear.

    Shalom.

Isaiah 51:22-23. “Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine:
22 Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again:
23 But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.”

  16. Yoruba Israelite

Please sit down and learn to eat humble pie.

You are not trained as either a banker or an economist and you know nothing about the Federal Reserve system or about Swiss banks.

    1. Quoting Chad Chen the callow one:

You are not trained as either a banker or an economist and you know nothing about the Federal Reserve system or about Swiss banks.

Out on a limb, busily sawing…

As I thought, a callow youth, with much still to learn, especially that which is not taught in a classroom. Look, you know nothing about me. I am 70 years old. In a long life, I have done many things. Yes I have an engineering Ph.D. That doesn’t mean I’m not also trained in economics, finance, banking, and a host of other things. As it happens, my Ph.D 2nd minor was development economics (1st minor was information science/systems–so I spent a lot of my life on the bleeding edge of technology). As it also happens, I held responsibility for a US$3.2 billion (1992) industry and finance portfolio in what by any measure would be considered a BIG bank. I was trained at that bank specifically in financial economics, mathematical financial engineering, and trade economics. (As part of my under-graduate training, I had kept up an economics stream — education economics, development economics, on top of basic training in mathematical macro- and micro-economics; I also took courses in literature!). I also took courses in Law — specifically legal aspects of banking, and contract law. I well remember in my boy-days winning academic prizes — in the same year — in physics, history, and spanish. They couldn’t figure out where to pigeon-hole me. Plus, among the entering 12-year olds, I set batting records I doubt have yet been broken, and I had the honor of representing my school in senior-team inter-col football, varsity also when I went on to university. I also represented T&T in shooting competition when I was a member of the T&T Cadet Force. My point: it is a mistake of callow youth to presume. It is not a mistake made by mature folk, unless they’re in the grip of some silly ideology like brahmanism, which presumes upon the (lack of) ability of the poor and oppressed, and those they consider by virtue of physiognomy to be “monkeys”.

Listen. If you would take issue with what I said about the owners of Swiss banks, and of the Federal Reserve, the only way to do it is to check the facts, and correct me if I’m wrong. In this case, as to the Federal Reserve, go and read the (1913) enabling Act of Congress. It does not make for easy reading, but you will find it does not contradict what I say. Checking up on who owns “Swiss banks” is not as easy, for obvious reasons. But I’m sure of what I say nevertheless.

Let me also add… when it comes to the Negro, never presume on what we can and cannot do. We are the children of that “God” of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We are, still, the “apple of his eye”. Yes, he has chastened us. But even in the wretched condition that He alone put us in, He has endowed us with gifts and graces seemingly unique to us as a people, perhaps as a reminder to us and the rest of the world, as to who really we are as a people. Hence the odd Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali, George Washington Carver, Paul Robeson, Frank Worrell, IVA Richards, Jack Johnson, Michael Jordan, among so many others who all did what they did with surpassing ease and grace, all praise all glory to the most High. And no, it is not as many suppose that it is that we are gifted narrowly with a talent for song, dance and athletics. We are gifted with whatever the most High chooses. Btw, He gifted some of us to build and perfect the steelpan. Achong, Singh and others have tried to work out a mathematical model for it, but without notable success. Had they succeeded, which would have been the greater achievement — the thing itself, or its mathematical model?

Btw, if the 1913 Act is too heavy reading, try Eustace Mullins, “The Secrets of the Federal Reserve”. He has a reputation of being a white supremacist, so it might appeal to you. It didn’t stop me from reading it. I’ve also read Mein Kampf; it doesn’t make me a Nazi.

For the moment still, I extend to you,

      Shalom.

Jeremiah 30:10-14. “Therefore fear thou not, O my servant IYECHOB, saith IYEHAWAH; neither be dismayed, O IYESHARALOH: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and IYECHOB shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.
11 For I am with thee, saith IYEHAWAH, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
12 For thus saith IYEHAWAH, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous.
13 There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.
14 All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.”

  17. Once again the discussion on Cudjoe’s timely article has deteriorated into a contest of issues which seem unrelated to Cudjoe’s central theme which went far beyond the issues of reparations, compensation and economic responsibilities.
It’s about man’s inhumanity to man. It is about stripping away people’s culture, identity and roots by White colonialism and domination. This White colonial exploitation and domination have shaped how Black and Brown people see themselves and how they. see others.
The disparity of our visions are revealing themselves through the responses posted here and it is not encouraging.

    1. Yet again, the opportunity for honest discussion is bogged down by the sinister spinster tman, and his ahistorical projections. Who is “black”, and who is “brown” in the caribbean and the americas? Whose “culture, identity and roots”, were “stripping away” by “white colonial exploitation and domination”? This is one of the explouted oversights in caribbean history. The only “brown” people in the caribbean, are lebanese and syrian, and the only ethnic groups whose culture, identity and roots were purposefully, violently eroded through european, colonial policy and enslavement, were african people and the native peoples. Indians are NOT “brown”! The history of african and native peoples is unique to them and is not equivalent to Indian experience! Indentureship was not enslavement, and extremely different from the real “brown” (native peoples/mestizos) and african experience. Irish, portugese, chinese and indians, purposefully, and willingly intergrated into the colonial, european culture of the islands they migrated to. Stop appropriating african history for political clout.

    2. Well said TMan.
There is no doubt that many people who are engaged on this blog post sensible and well meaning materials. But there are also those, whose posts are so cantankerous that it brings out unnecessary verbal insults. At present, there is one in particular who wants to be considered ‘intelligent’ yet, posts contrary, misleading and uninformed materials. Maybe we should (amongst ourselves), disengage such participants. These unhealthy posts are not contributing to any meaningful understandings.

    3. This is nonsense.

See my long response taking issue with Cudjoe’s categories, white, black and brown. I gave chapter and verse.

Now, you are welcome to disagree.

But… clearly it is VERY much on point to challenge the starting premises of any point that anyone seeks to make. The logical principle is clear: false assumptions lead to false conclusions.

The proper response to an argument challenging one’s starting premises is to rebut the argument, if one can, or else to submit to that argument having been impeached.

It is not a proper response to lament that the impeached argument has been lost sight of.

In any case, the Moderator in his wisdom allows for a certain latitude. At its best, it works well. At its worst, we have to suffer ill-motivated fools. Like we see here.

It does not escape me that this ill-advised lament helps further to weaken Cudjoe’s reputation, and strengthen the suspicion that he is in league with the enemy. Consider the premise of this tendentious lament:

      Cudjoe’s timely article …

Timely? Relative to what exactly? Tulsa anniversary? Or relative to an opportunity to use Tulsa to spin a false narrative about “black and brown” being victims alike to “white” oppression. It is clearly a false narrative because the “brown sahib” indo-Aryans are, if anything, WORSE than the “white” Edomite “Aryans” that inflicted the massacre at Tulsa upon the Negro sons of Jacob. Again, quoting from the “Indian Policy”:
Item 2: “… we must not allow ourselves to be ruled by monkeys…”
This comes from a “brown” indo-Aryan suffering the same malady as the “white” “Aryans” that perpetrated Tulsa.

Even worse we see in the “Indian Policy”:

Item 3: “Hire niggas (sic) only if you have to, make them your slaves and keep them at the lowest level of your payroll, economic power is ours”.

At least the “white” enslavers show some remorse for past misdeeds, and some seek to make amends. The “brown” indo-Aryan on the other hand is working — now as we speak, in the 21st century — a clandestine policy to enslave the Negro.

I am sure that Dr. Cudjoe would do well to chew on that thought, whether or not he welcomes being contradicted.

From you and your ilk I continue to withhold my peace. To others I say

      Shalom.

I know the “brown” indo-Aryan will not relent, rather will continue recklessly to be the mover of sedition in the land. But Dr. Cudjoe should consider well the entangling alliance he seems to have formed. Consider:

Nahum 1:7-9. “IYEHAWAH is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
9 What do ye imagine against IYEHAWAH? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.”

      1. You exegete so nicely, showing how Africans are victims of everyone else…. maybe you are a victim to. Jeremiah 13:
23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

        1. Quoting Mamoo:

Africans are victims of everyone else…. maybe you are a victim to. Jeremiah 13:
23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, …

You have not the courage to state forthrightly your point. But I take it as a reference to the skin color of the Negro. The point seems to require me to share in the delusion of indo nincompoops brainwashed by brahmanist caste/color (=varna) doctrine that dark skin (“swa”-shachor in Hebrew) is somehow inferior –in the sight of the most High at that!– to light skin (“sa”-shachor). It is supposedly a curse per se.

This is not so. Quite the opposite. The Hebrew term of skin color, “sa-shachor”, references the pale moon (the pictograph for the consonant, “sa”). The same phoneme is there in the word, “Satan”. The sons of the fallen angels — the nephilim — who came down to earth and took for themselves wives, all whom they chose (Genesis 6:4) were distinguished from the swa-shachor (dark-skinned human sons of Adam) precisely by their pale skin, giving rise to sa-shachor (pale-skinned people) on the planet. Likewise, the mark of Cain precisely was sa-shachor. It is the mark of Satan’s children. It was by no means the skin color favored:

Numbers 12:10-12. “And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous. 11And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned. 12Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother’s womb.

This we also may infer from the circumstances surrounding the birth of Noah, who was albino:

Enoch 105:1 -3. “After a time, my son Mathusala took a wife for his son Lamech.
105:2 She became pregnant by him, and brought forth a child, the flesh of which was as white as snow, and red as a rose; the hair of whose head was white like wool, and long; and whose eyes were beautiful. When he opened them, he illuminated all the house, like the sun; the whole house abounded with light.
105:3 And when he was taken from the hand of the midwife, Lamech his father became afraid of him; and flying away came to his own father Mathusala, and said, I have begotten a son, unlike [to other children]. He is not human; but, resembling the offspring of the angels of heaven, is of a different nature [from ours], being altogether unlike to us.”

We may infer that the offspring of fallen angels were known to be sa-shachor (pale like the moon) not swa-shachor (bronze like humans descending from Adam).

It is also plainly stated in Scripture that IYESHUAH and IYEHAWAH are like unto burnished bronze as to skin color; see Daniel 7:9, 10:6 and Revelation 1:14-15; and woolly as to hair texture. The white Edomite Christians have lied in giving us a white Jesus with straight hair, just as the indo-Aryan brahmanists have lied in suggesting that swa-shachor skin is cursed of the most High.

If as a hereditary nincompoop, per brahmanist lies of caste/varna you choose to believe the lie, that is on you. That has nothing to do with me.

In any case, I am Negro, of a swa-shachor line going back to Adam, through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (also David and Solomon). I am not of a sa-shachor line of bastards going back to a faceless and nameless fallen angel already sentenced to the lake of fire with their father the Devil.

Further, the Negro are not of the line of Ham. The Ethiopians are also known as Kushites, and Kush is the first son of Ham.

According to the Zondervan Bible Dictionary, Ham is described as: “The youngest son of Noah, born probably about 96 years before the Flood; and one of eight persons to live through the Flood. He became the progenitor of the dark races; not the Negroes, but the Egyptians, Ethiopians, Libyans and Canaanites.”

Btw, the Kushites appear to have been among the first to populate the land now known as India, which was historically known as Indus-Kush, also Eastern Ethiopia. Also among the first to populate that land was the also very swa-shachor Elamites. These are descended from Shem. The Tamil Tigers aka Tamil-Eelam are descendants. They populate the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and also Sri Lanka. They are darker of skin than the Negro, and also many Hamitic people such as the Ethiopians (today) and Somali. In any case, it is no slur upon the original swa-shachor peoples of India, that they were aggressed upon and invaded by the sa-shachor indo-Aryan HAT-HA-TAN (heathen), just as the nephilim that pollute their gene-pool aggressed upon and invaded earth, where they had no business coming. By definition, that made them the first heathen on the planet.

When therefore you quote Jeremiah 13:23, that has nothing to do with me because I’m neither Kushite (Ethiopian) nor Hamite. Yes, the Kushites were known (and admired I might add) for their very dark swa-shachor skin color. That sets up the figure of Jer 13:23. But it seems to me to apply more to the heathen races, though sa-shachor, than the swa-shachor races that claim human seedline back to Adam. It is the heathen races that have difficulty changing their “spots”. That is why they can’t let go the skin color trope, and want to brainwash themselves and everyone else, that sa-shachor is better than swa-shachor. Yarite.

From you and your ilk I withhold my peace. To others I say

          Shalom.

  18. “It is about stripping away people’s culture, identity and roots by White … domination”

I mean no disrespect for anyone who venerates their (non-white) ancestors and ancestral homeland. But,,,

What exactly is the value of a premodern African (or East Indian) culture in a post-modern age?

Are (African) cruelty, greed and most particularly tribalism — with its ruthless disregard for, and treatment of, outsiders — the things we should value?

Sorry. I thank God I was spared a backward African culture and identity.

As Trinidad spirals downward to moral and economic squalour, we should be hoping we could hold on to the lessons of enlightenment, honesty, integrity, decency, etc the Europeans tried to teach us by example. Instead we turn away to embrace what is inferior. Because it is OUR culture.

    1. Quoting the callow one, Chad Chen:

Are (African) cruelty, greed and most particularly tribalism — with its ruthless disregard for, and treatment of, outsiders — the things we should value?

Sorry. I thank God I was spared a backward African culture and identity.

The Turks have a saying, “The eye sees all but itself.”

Chad Chen should look inward, into his own benighted soul, to find the lack that he projects unto the Negro. Negro-phobia is real. Those in its grip lose even the ability to think clearly and with balance. As one example, Chad Chen essays the silly idea that the colonizer and the enslaver got the worse of the bargain. He doesn’t seem to see the silly implication, –lost as he is with silly ideas like pre-modern, post-modern, even the value-twisted ideas of some economic theory (e.g. wealth measures that take no account of whether and to what extent labor is remunerated)– that it would then be that the enslaver-colonizer should be paid reparations! He takes issue with African “greed” and “tribalism”.

Let me see, does that mean that the king of Belgium, who slaughtered 10 million Congolese in his rapacious greed for more and more rubber and other goods to sell to European and international markets, was less greedy than the Negroes he enslaved?

The Negro, as a people, are at least as welcoming of he stranger as any other nation of people. We are a people “in whom there is no guile”. We are if anything a “gullible” people, –as Leladharsingh noted,– welcoming to a fault. We would give to the stranger the very shirt off our back. We are broad of smile, slap of back people, sometimes too much so. This idea that we are tribal and therefore unwelcoming of strangers is a new one. I reject it, absent even anecdotal example.

Quite the opposite, in our encounter with the indo, it is they that come to us with all sorts of prejudices, as they themselves declare:

In a major address given at a meeting of the East Indian National Congress, Hosein, in the presence of the British Governor and other prominent officials, had the following to say: “The Indian was full of his racial prejudices He had heard of the great races of the earth. But among the great sons of the earth, Africa was not mentioned…From him the son of India had nothing to learn, unless, perhaps something to ridicule.”

      — Quoting Selwyn Ryan, Sunday Express, ca. 2013.

      I cite also VS Naipaul:

“The wish to be a writer didn’t go with a wish or a need actually to write. It went only with the idea I had been given of the writer, a fantasy of nobility. It was something that lay ahead and outside the life I knew-far from family and clan, colony, the Trinidad Guardian and negroes.”

The scathing reference here to “negroes” comes out of the blue. It is uncalled-for in context. It is the same here with Chad Chen. There is a need — deep-seated and psychological — to get a dig in at the Negro.

From where comes this animus? At least part of the answer to this bewildering pathology is revealed in that document, the “Indian Policy”:

Item 2: “… we must not allow ourselves to be ruled by monkeys…”

If they see us as “monkeys”, it must be a very galling thing, in and of itself, to be “ruled” by Negroes. Hence they speak of “humiliations” they have suffered at the hand of the Negro, of being discriminated against. They lay these charges at our feet, and say it is because we hate the “stranger”, that it is because we are “tribal”, when it is they that talk “apan jhat” when election time rolls around.

Look. Let me find something better to do. I find it very draining to suffer fools. Especially fools pointing fingers, unaware of those pointing right back.

I withhold my peace from you and your ilk (which is now quite clear). But to others, I say

      Shalom.

Psalms 83:2-6. “For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:
6 The tabernacles of Edom (includes the indo-Aryan), and the Ishmaelites (includes the Arabs); of Moab, and the Hagarenes;…”

      1. Well said as usual yoruba, ignore the swine and save your pearls.

Rember, indian politics in trinidad (UNC/COP/NJAC, is about how great india is…but for whom? The persons who push this type of hindutva, indian nationalist politics, want state power to make T&T a colony of racist indian and are desperately trying to goad africans into supporting them. They expect african people to ignore these truths and focus on what THEY say is important, relevant news. Tman, mamoo, tariqandalus, etc are all agents of that political engine.

If I was African, I would be scared to live in India: What Masonda’s murder tells us
        https://www.firstpost.com/world/if-i-was-an-african-i-wouldve-been-scared-to-live-in-india-2799816.html

        https://www.firstpost.com/world/if-i-was-an-african-i-wouldve-been-scared-to-live-in-india-2799816.html

        1. What astonishes me is that they get the support of NJAC!!
Then again, there is that old saying about strange bedfellows…

The same now applies to Selwyn Cudjoe… There is a spiritual blindness that comes upon those that eat the dainties of the wicked…

          Shalom.

          1. Yoruba, i’m surprised that NJAC surprised you!

Read carefully and tell me what’s wrong in this NJAC bootlicking fuction. Read the “professor” give his account of trinidadian history, and tell me if you are still surprised.

“African-ness” is their hokk, line and sinker.

            F-A-K-E !

  19. So Selwyn looks like he has hit upon some strategies for communication, for getting his points across. He champions black struggles in one article, then the next article he puts in a word for Kamla Persad-Bissessar and the UNC. Draw in black voters in one article, then once you have them on your side you paint the glories of Kamla Persad-Bissessar. It obviously hasn’t been working; commentators pick apart his woeful opportunism. So if “Chad Chen” didn’t exist Selwyn would have to create him as the foil against his views, everybody then unites against “Chad Chen” and Selwyn emerges as the star of the movie. Notice how quickly “Chad” comments appear. Try it. Observe it. “Chad” comments are usually misinformation, historical revisionism, plain lies, but he uses this tone as if he is a serious academic. Like I said if “Chad Chen” didn’t exist, Selwyn would have to create him. You want strategy, take that.

  20. If I were to say, “Kathy wore a red dress to work on June 15, 2021,” Yoruba will likely respond, “So you are saying John wasn’t wearing socks when he reported for work last week Friday, which is a silly lie. And by the way I am 70 years old, and I have a PhD.”

Inconvenient Truth would then say, “Kathy wore a blue dress during the entire month of January 2019, so you are wrong.”

I do not know how to argue with people who cannot think logically.

    1. If you have an actual rebuttal to make, then make it.

That you do not do so is the give-away that in fact you have none.

Still, I never run away from a good argument (as opposed to a mere quarrel) especially one coming from a perceived enemy. So I’ll be all ears. But I do not hold my breath while waiting.

      1. Chad Chen is a narcissist yoruba. He deflects and spins into his own universe. Observe his pattern just like mamoo, tman etc. They are actors, they aren’t genuine! He has no honour or integrity, only an agenda…spreading his poison.
