PM's 'one-on-one' with Trump unclear as summit ends
While the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago was informed that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar would engage in one-on-one discussions with United States President Donald Trump at the recently concluded Shield of the Americas Summit, it now appears that the interaction was not a formal closed-door meeting but rather "an engagement" just before the official photo opportunity.

Local security experts endorse security coalition move
The agreement means that the United States will train and mobilise partner nation militaries to achieve the most effective fighting force necessary to dismantle cartels and their ability to export violence and pursue intelligence through organised intimidation.

Sharing his views on the coalition, Heerah said the Shield of the Americas Summit represented an important step towards strengthening regional cooperation at a time when the Western Hemisphere is facing increasingly complex security, economic and geopolitical challenges.

Opposition: PM must explain benefits of US trip
The Opposition has called on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to address the country on returning from the Shield of the Americas Summit in Florida and give details of any "new" arrangements entered into by her Government.

PM proud of US partnership
Trump, with Persad-Bissessar at his side, signed a proclamation committing to the Americas Counter-Cartel Coalition—focused on using force to deal with criminal cartels—at the Shield of the Americas Summit at the Trump National Doral golf course resort in Miami on Saturday.

Minister: Middle East tensions push oil revenue up to US$4M for T&T

Higher LNG prices could aid T&T
Energy Minister Moonilal:
RISING global liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices amid escalating tensions in the Middle East could boost export revenues for Trinidad and Tobago, even as the country faces constraints in increasing natural gas production, Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal has said.

Daly Bread: SoEs, at best, are only temporary suppressants of crime; plus my coup story
In light of the announcement last Tuesday of yet another state of emergency (SoE) I feel compelled to restate a main theme of these columns.

We have barely advanced positively in politics or in governance and little ever changes, even after a general election at which we vote out an unsatisfactory, non-performing incumbent government.

PM slams PNM 'amnesia' on SoE
PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has criticised the "amnesia" and hypocrisy of the People's National Movement (PNM), noting that under the former administration the state of emergency (SoE) regulations were more restrictive than those that exist today.

The Couva Hospital has no name
The $1.6 billion facility was constructed by the Kamla Persad-Bissessar People's Partnership government and commissioned days before the 2015 general election.

And some time after Persad-Bissessar returned to office, in April 2025, workmen returned to the Couva facility.

Beachgoers stumble upon man's body at Tyrico Bay
The man was described as being of East Indian descent, dark-skinned and of medium to heavy build. He was found clad just in a pair of red three quarter pants and he appeared to be between the ages of 45 to 50.

Police believe he had been killed somewhere else and the body was dumped there. But police could not speculate on how he may have been killed as although there were marks of violence on his body, there were no gunshot or stab wounds.
