Muslims told to withhold votes over Syrian repatriation
Head of the Repatriation Committee, Nizam Mohammed, has called on Muslims to withhold their votes unless Prime Minister Stuart Young or Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar make a firm commitment to repatriate nationals who remain stranded in refugee camps in Syria.

Patriotic Front political leader and the party's candidate for Couva North, Mickela Panday, criticised the country's political and financial climate, highlighting racial division encouraged by leaders and exploitation by the banking sector.

Alexander proposes service dogs for people with disabilities
He made the suggestion in response to a question from Nikisha Pierre, president and co-founder of the Differently-Abled Movement, who is a blind amputee. The exchange took place during a UNC town hall meeting in Tunapuna on April 17.

Pierre is advocating for an increase in the disability grant from the current $2,000 to $3,500, saying the cost of living has severely affected the community.

Immigration officer raises funds for third battle with cancer
In December 2024, Joseph began her third battle with cancer when she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare form of cancer which results in the blood cells in the bone marrow not maturing to the point where they grow into healthy blood cells. She is in need of US$158,000 for treatment in Colombia.

Police are investigating the death of 73-year-old Winner Yvonne Francis. Francis, originally of Cochrane Village, Guapo, had been residing at the Maureen Geriatric Home in Palo Seco.
