A cargo vessel that originated in Guyana and was headed to French/Dutch island of St Martin, was searched in the waters off Trinidad on Wednesday.

The TT Police Service has arrested five people and seized over 180 kilogrammes of cocaine, valued at over $250 million, from a shipping vessel bound for St Martin on March 14.

In an interview with journalists last evening, Rowley, who will resign on March 16, said the government and law enforcement have done enough with the enhanced powers given under the state of emergency, which started on December 30 and was extended for three months.

But that trip also had another significance. Rowley said as they travelled in the same car to view the body and were waiting in the holding room, Persad-Bissessar raised with him the issue of the "unsatisfactory" pension arrangements in the Parliament (for legislators) and for the judges.

He said that at the time, the plight of former chief justice Clinton Bernard, who was having difficulties mana­ging his personal affairs, was in the news.

He said he told Persad-Bissessar to bring the bill to support the enhancement of the pension arrangements of the pensions and he would support it. "And she said 'okay', and our conversation moved on from that," he said.

However, Persad-Bissessar reneged on that agreement, Rowley said in an interview with the media, titled From Mason Hall to Whitehall: The Closing Chapter, which was broadcast on the three television stations on Thursday night.
