Motion against AG today
THE House of Representatives will sit today from 1.30 pm to debate a no-confidence motion against Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi. The motion was filed by Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal and calls on Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to fire Al-Rawi as AG, pointing specifically to the decision by State oil company Petrotrin to discontinue legal action against its former executive chairman Malcolm Jones with respect to the failed gas-to-liquids project. In his motion, Moonilal claims there was a lack of due diligence and disclosure by Al-Rawi concerning the discontinuance of this matter and this has fuelled claims of political interference in this matter. Moonilal further alleges that on this basis, Al-Rawi has compromised his office.
