Prime Minister's Eid Message to the Nation Posted: Friday, September 10, 2010
MESSAGE TO THE NATION ON THE OCCASION OF EID UL FITR 2010
Assalam–O–Alaikum
On this joyous occasion of Eid ul Fitr, I bring greetings to our Muslim community on behalf of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago. "May the blessings of Almighty Allah be showered upon you and grace your homes with peace, warmth and love".
For Muslims worldwide, Eid is an auspicious festival characterized by a renewal of faith, camaraderie, commitment to family and community and forgiveness of sins and enmity.
Over the past month, during the observance of Ramadan, our Muslim brothers and sisters have honoured their obligation to fast, practise austerity, offer prayers and perform acts of charity. Today with the breaking of the fast, it is time to celebrate victory over self-control and give thanks for strength, health and the opportunities of life. The Eid day brings happiness, unity and the knowledge that true joy comes from our ability to alleviate the suffering of our needy brothers and sisters.
As we join our Muslim community in observing Eid ul Fitr, let us pledge to continue to demonstrate the spirit of tolerance and understanding that rests within the hearts of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
To our Muslim brothers and sisters it is my prayer that Almighty Allah blesses your home with happiness, your heart with devotion and your soul with purity.
Eid Mubarak
The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar
Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
