Noor Mohammed Hassanali was sworn in as the second president of TT on March 19, 1987, after the National Alliance for Reconstruction came into government. He succeeded Sir Ellis Clarke, and served as president for ten years until 1997.

A man of humility passes on
Former President Noor Hassanali, 88, was laid to rest yesterday in a simple burial at the Western Cemetery, St James, attended by his wife Zalayhar, son Khalid, and a sprinkling of friends and relatives.
