Boogsie, Stalin for Skiffle Sensations
Posted: Friday, July 25, 2003

NINE TIME Panorama champs and reigning Pan in the 21st Century victors, bp Renegades will tonight kick off this weekend's round of the Tidco/Pan Trinbago concert series, with a showcase at its Charlotte Street panyard beginning at 8:p.m.

For tonight's presentation, host band Renegades will also feature its youth orchestra (reigning Panorama Junior champs), an ensemble from The Lydian Singers, saxophonist Francis Prime, Robert Munro Among Friends, H20 Phlo and band members doing a Latin Dance exhibition.

In addition, Success Stars Pan Sounds, showcasing the work of arrangers Kareem Brown and Ben Jackson, will be on hand to execute the music that has won them rave reviews.

Tomorrow, the TCL Group Skiffle Bunch holds the flame, with a show that involves five-time national calypso monarch and reigning Calypso King of Kings, Black Stalin. The Skiffle presentation will feature excerpts from the band's joint concert with Stalin; all at their Coffee Street San Fernando panyard.

"We understand that there would have been a large number of people who could not afford to attend the presentation at Hilton Trinidad and even our Naparima Bowl show, so we welcomed the sponsorship of this event to be able to offer much of the same product to them for the agreed $20 fee," said Skiffle manager, Junia Regrello. San Fernando's most recent Alderman.

The show last month successfully toured New York as part of a Tourism and Industrial Development Company package to promote Trinidad and Tobago. At the New York presentation, Stalin managed to coax Culture Minister Pennelope Beckles onstage to duet with him on "We Can Make it If We Try".

Apart from Stalin, Skiffle will present the work of pan virtuoso Len "Boogsie" Sharpe and afterward offer a Back in Time dance powered by top-drawer DJ music. Showtime at both events will be 8:p.m.
