Objectors fail to show

Objectors to 500 people who are registered to vote in the San Fernando West constituency failed to show up yesterday at the Circular Road office of the Elections and Boundaries Commission to support their objections.
Marva Bostic, Elections Officer of the PNM , told the Express the names of those people who were challenged would remain on the voters register.
The Express learned that the officers attached to the office worked overtime to deal with the objections. Several voters had turned up at the Circular Road office to ensure that their names were not removed from the list.
Chief Election Officer Howard Cayenne confirmed yesterday that the EBC had received the objections , but said before changes were made to the list, the EBC had to conduct field enquiries."
He added: " In cases where the objector fails to turn up, the commission relies on the findings of field checks done by EBC officials."Field checks, he said, had already being done in San Fernando West.
Bostic said : “As far as the 500 objections are concerned, we are happy that the EBC has not removed these voters from the list.”
The PNM was still in the process of verifying the list's accuracy, she said. EXCERPTS FROM TODAY's "EXPRESS"
