Re: Indo-Trinis treated as second-class citizens

Does Vidya Naipaul identify with Trinidadians? I think not. He has done everything in his power to distance himself from his backward island nation.
Quite, unlike Derrick Walcott, who not only reminds everyone that he was born in St Lucia, but claims Trinidad as his adopted home. Here we go again worshiping at the feet of those who use those same feet to walk all over us. If the colonials want to applaud him, let them, since I'm sure he has done a lot more for them than he has done for the West Indies. I read an interview he gave to some American weekly magazine, Naipaul claims England as his home, he identifies more with the English than he does with his ancestral home, India and much less with his birthplace, Trinidad. Trinidad to him is just source material. Come on people start upholding your own local heroes, ask Raffique Shah, I'm sure he knows a few.
