Central woman kidnapped
In Response To: Spate of Kidnappings ()

By Sascha Wilson

The daughter of a prominent Central businessman was abducted early yesterday morning as she made her way to her father's businessplace in Longdenville.

Kidnappers have demanded a $5 million ransom for the safe return of Jacklin Aking, 28, of Main Road, Longdenville.

Aking, the first woman to be kidnapped for the year, is the daughter of Errol Aking, proprietor of E-zees Lumber Ltd, a wood manufacturing company which exports its products throughout the Caribbean. The family also operates a sawmill in Arima.

Aking, who works for her father, was snatched around 9.30 am, about 50 feet away from her father's businessplace, which is located some four buildings away from the family's home.

Police reports said the woman was walking along the Main Road when reaching opposite the Longdenville Pharmacy, two cars — a grey Accent and a Galant — pulled up alongside her. According to reports, the back door of one of the cars flung open and Aking was forced into the vehicle.

Apparently workers at the nearby lumber place heard her screams but were helpless as the cars immediately sped off.

The family was informed by a neighbour who witnessed the incident and the police were immediately contacted. An all points bulletin was issued and officers of the Chaguanas CID, Task Force and the Anti-Kidnapping Squad responded.

About 45 minutes later, police said, someone called a relative on his cellular phone and demanded that the family pay $5 million for the woman's return. But it is not certain whether the family will pay the money.

The only lead the police has so far is that the kidnappers were last seen heading along Todds Road, in Caparo. A few months ago Aking's father was shot by bandits at his sawmill in Arima.

Family members were said to be very traumatised by the incident and have refused to comment on the incident. Neighbours told Newsday that they did not see anything. However they described the woman as a quiet person.

Snr Supt Ali is spearheading investigations.
