Balgobin stage managed his attempted kidnapping?

DPP to Police:
Tell me more about attempt to kidnap Willie

By Nalinee Seelal, Newsday

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Geoffrey Henderson has ordered further investigations in the attempted kidnapping of Chaguanas businessman Wilbur "Willie" Balgobin.

Yesterday, ASP Henry Millington, the officer assigned by Police Commissioner Hilton Guy to investigate the attempted kidnapping and firearm related matters, submitted his findings to DPP Henderson.

Contacted yesterday DPP Henderson confirmed that the file was submitted to him and that he had ordered further investigations to be carried out. Police sources said the DPP asked the police to clear up certain information contained in the file.

He is expected to give directions in the matter next week when the file is returned to him.

Balgobin has already been interviewed by the police on the matter.

Balgobin alleged last Saturday night that he used his licensed gun to fire two warning shots at a man who attempted to kidnap him. The Chaguanas businessman claimed the gun used was a 9 mm pistol which he is licensed to use. However, he was seen in a newspaper photograph with a revolver which he claimed belonged to a friend. He has no licence for that revolver.

Balgobin has described as "ridiculous" reports that he stage managed his attempted kidnapping.

Around 9 pm last Saturday, a lone gunman allegedly went to Balgobin's Eastern Avenue, Lange Park, Chaguanas, home and pointed a gun at the head of Stephen Ramayah, a friend of the businessman.

Balgobin said he fired two shots and the man escaped in a waiting car.
