Re: Indian And Black Relations
In Response To: Indian And Black Relations ()

Mr. McTavish,
Once in a while we are tempted to speak about matters that are beyond our comprehension. You admitted that you did not grow up in Trinidad, hence; why did you believe that you had a grasp of the extent of inter-marriage between people of African descent and people of East Indian descent?

Prior to independence (1962) and continuing into the present people of African and those of East Indian descent raised families and continue to do so. The fact that politicians determined that race relations was pivitol in the Nation's political process and that it could be used to exploit those who lacked the wherewithal to grasp the private and personal choices to which they are entitled, race became an issue between those two factions.

I elected to not use the distinction of marriage because quite frequently in Trinidad and Tobago the term (common-law) applies. I do not believe that it is anybody's business other than those involved as to who should choose whom they want as a mate.

To satisfy your curiosity and to be better informed, I suggest thst you come to Trinidad and on any school day, stand at the corner of Prince and Frederick streets as school children are heading for transportation to get home and you will see the actual face of this intellectually impoverished Nation.
