Eight injured as maxi taxi, truck collide

Eight people were seriously injured when a maxi taxi and a truck collided in the vicinity of Centenary Street, Tunapuna, and the Priority Bus Route yesterday.

The smash-up occurred just after 6 pm.

The injured were taken to hospital.

Reports said some of the injuries were internal, while one man suffered injury to his head and two others from broken bones.

A woman, said to be in her 20s, was also hurt.

The names of the injured were not released by police.

Reports said the truck ripped out the street lights at the corner and the upper half of the truck landed on Bharath Street.

A crowd of spectators jeered at police and emergency medical personnel, saying they should have responded to calls much sooner.

Tunapuna police are conducting investigations.
