regarding meaning of Guyana Creole English word.

Dear trinidadandtobagonewsforum:

At this time I am writing an essay on a novel by MG Vassanji entitled "No New Land".

In the text one of his characters from Guyana used the term "Bhai". For example: "She's tired, bhai.", when speaking to another character.

Could anyone tell me what "Bhai" means? Is it of dutch origin? Where could I find an English Creole dictionary?

This is not a newsworthy item, I realize but perhaps you might at least be able to direct me to the proper source for such information. So far I don't see it in Dr. Winford James's columns.

Many thanks,
