By Samuel Mcknight, www.newsday.co.tt

A MAN suspected of being involved in the recent kidnapping of a Bamboo Village #2 drug lord was shot on Tuesday evening while walking along Auzonville Road, Tunapuna and died later that evening at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. According to reports around 6.30 pm Sheldon Rivers, 26, formerly of Sheriff Street, Tunapuna, was walking south along Auzonville Road when a car pulled up next to him and two armed men came out, ordering him into the car. He got in and then swiftly jumped out followed by the gunmen who started firing shots.

After a volley of shots, Rivers ran into an open yard. He then ran to a house where the residents locked their doors, refusing to assist. The bleeding man then ran to the front gate next door where he pleaded with the security officer to call the police. His attackers had fled by this time. The injured man was taken to the Port-of- Spain General Hospital where around 11.30 am he succumbed to his injuries. He was shot six times to his head, hands, back, buttocks and legs. Rivers was said to be the main suspect in the kidnapping of the Drug Lord who was kidnapped five weeks ago from Bamboo Village #2 while visiting the home of a friend and released in Sangre Grande the next night. Police described the dead man as having a "notorious background." Rivers death is murder number 255.
