CARICOM moves to secure emergency aid for Haiti

Rickey Singh, Observer correspondent

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - Caricom member states are expected to send food, water, and medicine to their hurricane-ravaged neighbour Haiti "as soon as possible" even as the Caricom Secretariat moves to get a first-hand assessment of the needs on the ground.

"We are looking forward to Caricom governments rushing, as soon as possible, supplies of food items like rice and sugar, as well as water and medicine," said Caricom Secretary-General Edwin Carrington.
