Panday at UNC party headquarters

UNC leader Basdeo Panday has said Prime Minister Patrick Manning and the PNM regime are holding the country to ransom by not agreeing to power-sharing to run the Government.

Panday was speaking at a news conference yesterday at UNC party headquarters, Rienzi Complex, Couva. The party held its Executive and Parliamentary arm meetings prior to the conference.

Panday said if Manning was not interested in power-sharing, then he must convene Parliament and prove the PNM could run the Government with18 seats.

He rejected Manning's assertion that power-sharing was a recipe for division and accused the PNM of using scare tactics and undue pressure to force certain UNC MPs to cross the floor in Parliament.

He said revisiting the Crowne Plaza agreement was no longer an option, adding Manning must call elections now.
