Re: dangered Indian excerpts from.....

Several of us had an African historical debate program on the state media during the tenure of the UNC and many Indians called in for it to be stopped, and it was stopped. All the information given back then has proven to be quite accurate. PNM on the other side is no better as they feel to allow for more expression of African history and views will get them tagged as supporting one race over the others. They did however open the door for the many Indian stations we have today, by allowing them 'free' time on the state media during the early PNM era to express and share their cultural views and this created a market for it. It was tokenism, but it allowed Indians to solidifying around a brand of Indian awareness and hence the many radio stations Indians operate today. This was not offered to those from the African cultural perspective.

Today there is a group applying for a radio station license to promote African awareness, and they are still getting the run around from this PNM government.

Contrary to some beliefs, Soca and Calypso on their own are not African culture. There is a bigger history behind the colonial struggles that explains how our human differences in looks and attitude developed.

This is the education and debates that are needed if people have to get out of the racial boogie.
