Lament the Passing of An Artform

During the last decade or so, those of us who have a genuine love for lyrical genius have been starved by the so called composers in our land. The fairy tale begins, " Once upon a time, in the land of T&T, there was an art form called calypso." Now however the satire and genius has gone the way of the dinosaur as new artistes, for want of a better word, calypsonians, seek to pollute the air waves with morbid sentiments, disgusting innuendoes and all encompassing racial hatred. I hesitate to use the word "discrimination" as this word once meant the enviable ability to discern between right and wrong, choosing to do right.

What is even more disturbing is that there are individuals who are so unaware of the great blessing that the human birth is seen as in every religion, that they spend their drunken weekends, blissfully unaware that they are spending their hard earned money to support factories which produce only waste materials which are serving to inundate the decent folk of this tiny speck with the poorest excuse for art that the western hemisphere can tolerate. This however is also happening in the local chutney scene as people continue going for cane trash by auntie Janet.
