ONE more person has been killed as the Harpe Place, Belmont and Quarry Road, Laventille gang war escalates. And both police and residents fear the war will continue with many more deaths before the end of the year. A relative of Glen Renaud, the latest murder victim, has confirmed they are not letting his murder go unpunished. Renaud, 27, a labourer, was shot several times around 9.30 pm on Wednesday while sitting on a wall in front his St Thomas Street, Laventille, East Dry River home. He was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he died around 3.30 am yesterday despite efforts by doctors to save him.

When Newsday visited the home of Renaud, the building was locked, but a relative blamed the whole thing on the gang war between members of the Charford Court/Harpe Place G-Unit gang and the Quarry Road gang over control of the URP and drug turfs. "The G-Unit want to run things and because we are not giving in they have started a war, but we will not surrender. "Last week they killed one of our people Odai Callender outside Harpe Place now they've killed Glen. "Glen was not in anything, all he did was work hard and see about his family, but because they could not find who they came for, they decided to shoot whoever they saw. "Now they have left two children fatherless...his 30-month-old son, Sadiq, does not understand what has happened and keeps asking for his father, all we can tell him is his dad has gone to work. "But someone will pay for this death. Is war they want, and is war they will get."

On visiting the scene, Newsday was able to follow a trail of blood and bullet holes for about 400 yards. According to investigations, Renaud and a friend were sitting atop the wall when they saw six armed men walking up the hill from a southerly direction. Renaud's friend drew this to his attention but as he tried to run the men began firing shots, hitting him in the leg. The men continued firing at Renaud while everyone else liming in the area scampered for safety. Eventually Renaud was able to find safety in an alley where he hid until he was carried to hospital where he later died. "What is hard" said another relative," is that we all grew up and went to school together, but because of petty jealousy, or fight for gang supremacy, we are now killing each other. "This war has to stop!" Police sources have also confirmed that their information has revealed an ongoing gang war and that an arrest was imminent. Information also reaching Newsday is that Renaud has several pending court matters for possession of arms and ammunition. Ag Sgt Grant of the Besson street CID is investigating.
